Simon & Garfunkel
Paul Frederic Simon (born October 13, 1941)
is an American musician, actor and singer-
songwriter, son of immigrant parents. His father,
Louis,was a college professor and a bass
player. His mother, Belle, was a elementary
school teacher.
Arthur Ira "Art" Garfunkel (born November 5,
1941) is an American singer, poet and actor,
son of immigrant parents. His mother Rose (née
Pearlman) and Jacob "Jack" Garfunkel, a
traveling salesman.
 Biography
“Simon and Garfunkel” was a known north American folk -rock duo formed by
Paul Simon and Arthur ' Art' Garfunkel . The two met on high school in 1953.
Children of the Jewish Community to Brooklyn, New York , in 1957 , formed a teen
duo “Tom and Jerry”, and managed to get relative success with the album " Hey
Schoolgirl " . In 1960 the partnership was broken momentarily , when Paul Simon
went to the Faculty of Arts , but in 1963 returned to work together.
 Biography
In 1964 they release, by Columbia Records, an acoustic album, which
didn’tbecome very noticed. Brought together traditional folk songs like " Pretty
Peggie -O " , as " Go tell in the Mountain" and Simon’s song , known as "The
Sound of Silence" with the beautiful and characteristic vocal harmonies of the duo.
 Biography
Catching up with Garfunkel , Paul Simon quickly entered the studio to record a
new album , this time with electric instruments and properly called “The Sound of
Silence”.

They used songs that Paul Simon had been longtime composing and they had
success.
 “The Graduate”
In 1968 they contributed with several songs for the soundtrack of the film “ The
Graduate”, especially " Mrs.Robinson " which represented the pinnacle of success
of the duo .
 Separation
At the same time, the relationship of Simon & Garfunkel began to fray . Their last
album, “Bridge Over Troubled Water” , 1970 , was marked by quarrels due to
artistic differences between them.

However , in the mid- 1970s, they resumed their friendship.

 Central Park concert
In 1981 they reunited to a mega- concert in Central Park of New York which was
attended by about 500,000 people.
 The come back?
According to the British BBC Radio in New York ,
after a show that took place at the Beacon Theater (
February 13th / 09) the singer Garfunkel said he is
planning a tour with Simon , but did not reveal the
places where the duo will pass. The interview came
shortly after a performance, where Simon made ​a
surprise entrance during the presentation , the pair
had not met since 2004, sang together hits like " The
Sound of Silence" , " The Boxer " and " Old Friends " .
