 The Problem
Dyehouse wastewater contaminants include:

• Dyestuffs • Organic and inorganic salts

• Surfactants • Solvents
• Oily substances • Acids and alkalis
• Natural materials • Suspended solids

 Authorities have specific requirements for maximum

allowable contaminant concentrations in the waste
stream.
 These requirements are often difficult to comply with in
an industrial setting and are usually cost prohibitive
 The Challenge
• To efficiently remove color from the effluent
• To meet other stringent criteria
Traditional effluent treatment technologies are :
• Ineffective for stringent requirements
• Not robust enough to withstand dyehouse effluent
• Too expensive in installation and/or upkeep to be considered
viable for this industry
Main parameters measured in textile dyehouse effluent are:
• Visible light transmission • TOC
at 1:20 dilution • BOD
• pH • COD
• Conductivity
• AOX
 The System
The purification system comprises of two
sequential main modules:
•An electro catalytic cell (ELCAT).
•A compact bio reactor (BIO).
The electrolizer oxidizes color and other
contaminants, while the bio reactor deals with
BOD/COD, TOC, oils and fats and other
organic contaminants.

Either the ELCAT module or the BIO module can be bypassed,

depending on the nature of incoming contaminants.
