 SEQUENCE OF PRESENTATION

 Title of Project.
 Scope of Project.
 Aims/Objectives.
 Advantages/Effects.
 Literature Work.
 SCOPE OF PROJECT:

FLUID MECHANICS

INTRODUCTION / PROBLEM
STATEMENT:
1) Electricity is the heartbeat of
the modern world and is a measure
of the progress of a country.
2) Shortfall of electricity in our country.
3) Industries and Factories etc. are not
working due to the non-availability of
power
4) Development of our country has been
stopped due to the shortfall of electricity
5) Life of our citizens is miserable.
 AIMS/OBJECTIVES:
The objective of this research project is to
produce electricity on a small scale, by installing
an impulse turbine in running water through
already existing channels in the area.
This project will help us and our country to
produce hydro-electricity for domestic use so that
the shortfall of electricity may be reduced and
once again industries, factories etc. should resume
their previous positions
ADVANTAGES

This project will help us and our

country to produce hydro-
electricity for domestic use so
that the shortfall of electricity
may be reduced and once again
industries, factories etc. should
resume their previous positions
 LITERATURE WORK

The relevant literature on the topic will be

collected from different sources to know
as to what type and how much work is
already done on such a research topic.
This step provides a base line for the
execution of new study.
IMPULSE TURBINES:
Runs by the impulse of the water

11
Impulse turbines are named after PELTON
L.A an engineer of California.
Impulse turbines are designed for low
discharge of water.
Water from a dam is made to flow through a
pipeline and then through guided mechanism
and finally through the nozzle during this
process entire available of energy of water is
converted to Kinetic Energy by passing it
through nozzle which is kept close to the
runner. Water enters the running wheel in the
form of jet which impinges on the buckets.
Examples of impulse turbines are:
1) PELTON WHEEL.
2) GIRARD TURBINE.
3) TURGO TURBINE.
4) BANKI TURBINE.

Pelton wheel is most commonly

used Impulse Turbine.
