COMMUNICATION

What is communication?
• It is simply the process of sending and receiving
information from source to sink, where it can be
used up or passed around. Instructions, tasks and
many crucial details can be sent and executed in a
company/business organization due to
communication.
• CAN YOU GIVE AN EXAMPLE OF WHERE YOU WERE
OR YOU YOURSELF COMMUNICATED AND GOT A
TASK DONE?
TYPES OF COMMUNICATION
• Now there are 2 types of communication—
• Internal Communication: This is
communication that takes place within an organisation.
For eg. a manager and supervisor, two employees
• External Communication: This takes place
between the organisation and the outside world.
External communication is crucial in maintaining the
efficiency rate and reputation of the company and
therefore has to work well
• CAN ANYONE GIVE EXAMPLES OF INTERNAL AND
EXTERNAL COMMUNICATION IN OUR DAILY LIVES?
ADVANTAGES OF INTERNAL
COMMUNICATION
• 1) It helps the management guide, encourage,
instruct or warn the workers in the most
effective way possible. For Example, A “No
Smoking” notice on the office table
• 2) It creates links between all the individuals in
the company/ business so that tasks and
instructions are carried out more effectively
• ANYTHING ELSE?
ADVANTAGES OF EXTERNAL
COMMUNICATION
• 1) Allows the manufacturers to gain access to
buy the raw materials needed to produce the
good or service
• 2) Allows the company to have a good
reputation when it comes to the servicing or
quality of their product
THE PROCESS OF EFFECTIVE
COMMUNICATION
• TRANSMITTER: This the sender of the message. This
is the person who wishes to pass on the information
to others. This person has to choose the next two
features carefully in order to make sure that
communication occurs carefully.

• The medium of exchange: The method through

which you wish to convey your message
THE PROCESS OF EFFECTIVE
COMMUNICATION
• Receiver: The person to whom the message should
be sent

Feedback: Where the receiver confirms that the

message has been received and responds to it. This
ensures that the information has been correctly
received to the right person and, if necessary, acted
upon.
CASE

• Yesterday, Mr Lachlan wanted all

of us to stand up for a minute of
silence to address the devastating
Colombo attacks. Describe the
Process of Effective
Communication in this particular
case.
ONE WAY COMMUNICATION
• One way communication occurs when the receiver
of the message has no chance of replying or
responding to that message. For Example, “take
these goods to the customer”
• One way communication does not allow the
receiver to contribute or provide any feedback.

• ONE WAY COMMUNICATION IS DOMINANT IN ONE

TYPE OF LEADERSHIP. WHICH ONE?
2 WAY COMMUNICATION
• Two way communication is when there is a reply or
a response from the receiver. Both people are
involved in the communication process and thus
leads to better and clearer information
• OTHER ADVANTAGES—
1) It becomes absolutely clear to the sender whether
or not the person receiving the message has
understood it and acted upon it.
2) As both people are involved in the communication
process, he receiver feels more part of this process
and therefore may feel more motivated
