Peer Pressure

● Peer Pressure- people influencing those around them to engage in poor behavior
● Almost everybody experiences peer pressure throughout school and activities
● Peer Pressure can be subtle or forceful and can be difficult to identify
● Peer Pressure can come from anybody, so it is important to stay alert.
● Pressure to engage in negative activity can come in many different forms.
Methods of Peer Pressure

● Force: physicality or threatening

● Verbal Persuasion: using words and
manipulation to suggest an action
● Advertising: using social media or
another platform to display a
negative action as a positive
How to Avoid Peer Pressure

● Choose friends carefully, avoid those partaking in negative activity


● Avoid situations where negative activity is likely, for example: when invited behind
the school during recess, decline the invitation
● Stay informed on the effects of negative activity to know what to avoid
● Get involved with healthy alternatives like sports or art
● Remember you always have the ability to say No!
Effects of Drugs on the Body

● Drugs can alter and interrupt brain activity


due to chemical imbalances
● Some drugs stunt growth, and others can
result in organ failure
● Many drugs are illegal and can lead to arrests
or disqualification from certain opportunities
such as jobs
● Doing drugs is also expensive, many addicts
find themself in financial deficits
● Doing drugs can subject you to carcinogens,
such as in the tar in cigarettes

Common Drugs and
Dangerous Substances

● Tobacco- found in cigarettes, vaporizers,


snuff, etc. causes lung cancer and is
highly addictive
● Alcohol- a depressant, causes problems
of the liver, alcoholism is genetic.
● Marijuana- not classified like other
drugs, rapidly being legalized in the U.S.
● Hallucinogens- Mushrooms, LSD, alters
brain activity and cause hallucinations
● Stimulants- Crack, methamphetamines,
causes rapid spikes in heart rate and
brain activity.
