 INTRODUCTION
 Lighthouse Trust, a World Health Organization (WHO) recognized Centre of Excellence,
works in close coordination with the Ministry of Health (MOH) to operate two large
integrated HIV testing, treatment and care clinics in Lilongwe, Malawi.
 The Lighthouse Trust was the first specialist centre in Malawi for the care and support of
people living with HIV and AIDS, providing a comprehensive range of services for patients
infected with HIV. The Lighthouse was registered as a public Trust in 2001 to provide a
continuum of quality care and counseling as well as to improve the quality of life of people
infected and affected by HIV and AIDS, including the terminally ill, in Lilongwe and beyond
in Malawi.
 Lighthouse ART Patient Follow Up management system is a new proposed system that aims
to reduce the problems being faced by the Lighthouse Organisation in following its
patients that are currently helping.
Problem Definition

 The current system has a lot of irregularities that most of the times the officers find it difficult
to use and they prefer using the manual system which to them is time consuming and
prone to errors.
 The current system is not integrated with other user modules i.e. HIV diagnostic officer and
clinician. The entities use different systems yet they are dealing with the same client.
 Based on the current system, for the patient to get a transfer they are required to go to
the centre where they receive their treatment in order to be accepted, as such this is time
consuming.
 The current system follows the patients who come for checkups on monthly basis not on
daily basis and based on reports that are produced by the system.

 Patient clinical details are written on the hard copy called yellow form and healthy
passport, incase they lost one of these things that means their data is lost also.
 The system cannot display the names of patients who will come for clinic visit.
System Features and Scope

 User Management : this will register staff and allowing only authorized users to access
resources that are adhered to, hence role based access mechanism.
 Patient management: accounts that will be registered into the system for the patients will
act as electronic healthy passport. The system will be generating master patient list on
daily basis with tools to detect duplicate patient records i.e. the list shall include the
names of patients who will have a clinic visit. Tracking patients that haven’t visited the
hospital for some time, starting from the day of checkup.

 User Tracking: As life and death decisions may be made based on a medical record, it
is important to know if any data items were changed and, if so, by whom and why.
This helps to ensure high quality data and determine why data errors occur.
 Patient Tracking: The system will have an Integrated google map that will enable the
operators to locate the locations of the clients or patients.
 Report Generating: Generating reports as required by the system operator or Officer
