STANDARD PRACTICE - CODE 1 REF. NO. 1.8

SAFETY AND PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT


OBJECTIVE

To prevent personal injury and minimise potential risk exposure to all persons underground in
the Decline Section.

1. Issue and control of personal protective equipment

1.1. All employees will be issued free of charge the following :

Hard hat, gloves, reflective belt, ear plugs.


Names and Amplats numbers of persons issued to be recorded by Supervisor in charge in
the P.P.E. book.

1.2. Machine operators, miners assistant and tip attendants will be issued in addition to items
listed in 2.1 with safety goggles. Names and Anglo Platinum numbers of persons
so issued must be recorded by Supervisor in the P.P.E. book.

1.3. All personnel going below surface at the Declines will wear a mine lamp, self contain
rescuer have hearing protection and red reflective belt in addition to their hard hats.

1.4. Overalls will be issued to employees once / year free of charge on their return to work from
leave.

1.5. Mine boots in good condition will be worn by all persons entering the Decline Section
underground.

1.6. Operators will be issued with and wear approved kidney belts when operating equipment
requiring this protection. (As directed by Section Engineer and Engineering Overseer).

1.7. No person will work or travel in any roadway unless he is wearing a reflective clothing.

1.8. Persons working at tipping points (ore passes and loading boxes) will be secured by safety
harnesses when inside fenced areas.

1.9. Persons issued with self contain rescuer , methanometers, CO monitors and cap lamps
are responsible to care for this equipment.
Damage or losses must be immediately reported to Supervisor who must take the necessary
corrective action.

1.10. Lamps, methanometres or CO monitors which do not function properly for the full shift
must be reported to the Lamp Room Attendant and Chief Environment Officer at the
Declines.

After repairs both persons will satisfy themselves by regular checks that the problem has
been eliminated.
