• In the ever-demanding competitive age of
today there is always a need to excel.
 Jatakarma Samskara
• It is one of the 16 essential Samskars
described in Ayurveda.
• Done just after birth of child.
• Jatakarma is meant for development of the
intellect of the child. This symbolize good
fortune.
• A small portion of mixture of Gold, Ghee and
Honey is given to the infant.
 Swarnaprashan
Described in
Ancient Ayurvedic text Kashyap Samhita , under
the procedure of lehana.
Procedure
Gold is mixed along with water, honey & ghee on
a clean stone which is in the east direction and
made the child is made to leh (Lick) the mixture.

 Feeding the gold for one month, the child becomes
extremely intelligent and is not attacked by any diseases
 By using it for six months, the child is able to retain
what-so-ever he/she hears.

• Dose : No Reference with respect to children
– Although enough indication to calculate dosage for
children.
 2 mg per kg. body wt.
• Duration : At least for 6 months for desired and
maximum benefits and to avoid long term toxicity. Start
from birth (Before full development of brain).
 It can be administered in any age group if used for general tonic
 For immuno-modulation, it should be administered in children
in early ages.
• Adverse effects Vs Benefits : In impure form, Swarna
can cause mental disturbances & even death.

 Does Gold Gets absorbed ?

Conclusion :
• It is indicated from pilot study that gold is absorbed in trace
amount from single dose of Swarnabhasma.
 Gold was absorbed in maximum amount from sublingual
administration of 30 mgSwarnabhasma
 30 mg dose mixed with black pepper powder and ghee
showed quickest absorbance.

Does it helps in improving immunity?
• Pharmacological studies showed specific & nonspecific
immune responses, which were modified in a positive
manner in Swarna Bhasma-treated mice.
• It also had a stimulatory effect on peritoneal
macrophages, which may be helpful to fight against
infections.
