PALANGKA RAYA, 11 JUNI 2019

DASAR

WSD
• Allowable stress in concrete fb  0.45 fc , fv  0.1  fc
• Allowable stress in steel = 0.4 fY

USD
• qu = 1.2 qDL + 1.6 qLL
• Mu  0.8 Mn ,Vu  0.6 Vn
Steps is for finding the required steel reinforcements of beam with known M max
and other beam properties using Working Stress Design method.
Given the following, direct or indirect:

Width or breadth b= 300 mm

Height h= 500 mm
Effective depth d= 440 mm
Allowable stress for concrete fc = 20 MPa
Allowable stress for steel fy = 390 MPa
Modular ratio n= 8
Self Weight of Beam qW = 3.75 kN/m'
qDL = 5 kN/m'
qLL = 15 kN/m'

L= 6 m

qT = qDL + qW + qLL = 23.75 kN/m'

Maximum moment carried by the beam Mmax = (1/8) * qT * L2 = 106.88 kN.m
Step 1: Solve for the balanced moment capacity

xbal = d * fc / (fc+ fy/n) = 128 mm

Cbal = 1/2 * fc *b * xbal = 384 kN

Mbal = Cbal * (d - 1/3 *xbal) = 152.58 kN.m

If M max ≤ M bal , design the beam as singly reinforced (go to Step 2)

If M max > M bal , design the beam as doubly reinforced (go to Step 3)
Step 2: Singly Reinforced Beam (M max ≤ M bal )
Locate the neutral axis by solving x from the equation below

x= 7.109 mm

Solve for the required steel area As = Mmax / fy * (d - 1/3 xbal) = 689.69 mm

2
D As (mm )

16 201.0619
19 283.5287 As < Asa ---> OK !
20 314.1593
22 380.1327
Step 3: Doubly Reinforced Beam (M max > M bal )
Additional given: Embedment depth of compresion steel = d'

Solve for A s 1 from Balanced Condition

Solve A s 2 from the excess of M max and M bal
