advanced maternal age By: MARIO ASINJO ABEGAIL DANZALAN JERICHO ARIOLA MARLON GAMAYON Christina Dumale Rica Dela Cruz Research Background The researchers chose to study the : Factors contributing to health risk of advanced maternal age because the researchers want to know the possible health risk that might encounter during and after pregnancy and health risk of the baby. One of the researcher is a product of an advanced maternal age that’s why the researchers focus Objectives: To identify the health risks of advanced maternal age. To know how advanced maternal age will affects the new born baby. To know how the advanced maternal age mothers cope with the health risks they experienced. Statement of the problem: 1. What are the factors contributing to health risks of advanced maternal age? 2. How does the advanced maternal age affects the new born baby? 3. How does the advanced maternal age mothers cope with the health risks they experienced? Hypothesis: The researchers think that the possible health risks that the mother encountered in advanced maternal age is high blood pressure or gestational hypertension this places the mother at risk for central nervous system issues, seizures, blood clots and liver and kidney failure. It can also cause premature delivery, due to low blood flow to the fetus. Another problem that becomes more common with age is diabetes, this includes gestational diabetes which happens when previously non-diabetic mothers are more likely to be macrosomic, which puts them at an increased risk for birth trauma and neonatal hypoglycemia. Health risks also includes miscarriage, still birth, breech positioning of the baby, and anemia and more due to presence of existing sickness or condition that might aggravates because of the late pregnancy and lack of knowledge on how to manage the possible health risk. The researchers think that the possible effect of advanced maternal age to the baby is having a chromosomal problems such as Down syndrome and mental retardation. Based on the existing studies the women of maternal advanced age increases the risks of fetal intrauterine distress, neonatal resuscitaion and intracranial hemorrhage. It also have higher incidence rates of cleft lip and palate. The mother who encountered late pregnancy at her late age might cope with the health risk by having a regular pre-natal checkup, eating right foods, taking the right vitamins for the pregnant women, regular exercises to prevent pregnancy complications and emotional and psychological support from her family on the process of childbirth until the postpartum days. The process is the way of gathering data about the factors contributing to health risk of late pregnancy with the used of questionnaire and face to face interview. The output is the result of data that was gathered through the process of the study. Significant of the study:
The study conducted to find out the factors
contributing to the health risk of late pregnancy at the age of 35 years old in Brgy. Habitat, Sto Niño 3rd, San Jose City, Nueva Ecija. The result of the study is beneficial to the advanced maternal mother, to the mothers, to the community, to the researchers, and future researchers.
