• An optical splitter is used to split one channel of optical signals into multiple channels. It has an outdoor fiber access
terminal for housing its main module, the optical splitting module. By working with an optical splitter, OptiX RTN 320 can
implement 1+1 HSB and cascade EPLA.
• In the transmit direction, an optical splitter evenly splits one channel of GE optical signals into two channels and sends them
to the active and standby RTN 320s.
• In the receive direction, an optical splitter receives optical signals from the GE port of the active RTN 320. (The GE port of
the standby RTN 320 does not transmit optical signals.)

Caution
• Cover unused ports with caps/PG covers. Retain removed caps for future use. Before installing the RTN
310, remove the protective cover and film on the antenna port. Otherwise, signal transmission will be
affected.
• Different methods can be used to change the polarization direction of antennas. If the method provided in
this document is not suitable for the type of antennas you have, use the method provided in the
installation manual delivered with your antennas.
• The default polarization direction of antennas is vertical. If the planned polarization direction is
horizontal, change the polarization direction to horizontal.
• If an antenna with a diameter of 0.6 m or less is used in a direct mounting scenario, you may install the
RTN 310 on the antenna and then hoist them both into position on the tower.
• Before installing a cable, bind the cable section that links the cable connector to the pole. This will protect
the cable connector from damage. Be sure that the length of cable running from the binding point to the
RTN 310 is sufficient to attach the cable connector to the Ethernet service port on the RTN 310.

2、Installation procedures-RTN 310 installation
Install a 1+1 cascade fiber
• Insert an SFP optical module into the COMBO port of the RTN 310. The port
provides miss-insertion prevention function. If you feel resistance in inserting the
module, rotate it and insert it again.
• Bind a cable tie to the end of the fiber to prevent the waterproof socket from sliding
down.
• Route the fiber through the waterproof socket and expose the LC/PC connector.
• Connect the LC/PC connector to the COMBO port of the RTN 310.
• Secure the waterproof socket on the COMBO port of the RTN 310.
2、Installation procedures-RTN 310 installation
Install an XPIC cascade cable
1. Insert an SFP optical module into the COMBO port of the RTN 310. The port
provides miss-insertion prevention function. If you feel resistance in inserting the
module, rotate it and insert it again.
2. Install the waterproof socket on the COMBO port of the RTN 310.
1. Insert an SFP optical module into the GE(o)/COMBO port of the RTN 310. The port
provides miss-insertion prevention function. If you feel resistance in inserting the
module, rotate it and insert it again.
2. Bind a cable tie to the end of the fiber to prevent the waterproof socket from sliding
down.
3. Route the fiber through the waterproof socket and expose the LC/PC connector.
4. Connect the LC/PC connector to the GE(o)/COMBO port of the RTN 310.
5. Secure the waterproof socket on the GE(o)/COMBO port of the RTN 310.
2、Installation procedures-RTN 310 installation
Install the PGND cable of the RTN 310.
• Connect the OT terminal of the PGND cable to the ground screw of the RTN 310.
• Remove the antirust paint and oxide layer at the ground point. After the connection is
complete, waterproof and rustproof the ground point.

2、Installation procedures-Installing antenna
Installing a ground clip(Contd..)
• Use a box cutter to strip off a section of the cable sheath. Take care not to damage
the shield layer.
• Ensure that the angle between a PGND cable and a power cable is 15 degrees or less.
If the power cable is routed vertically, route the PGND cable from the top
downwards.
2、Installation procedures-Installing antenna
Laying out GE and fiber cable
• Form a drip loop in the cable under the RTN 310 and coil the cable into a 0.6 m (1.97
feet) diameter roll and bind the roll to the pole for future use.
• Optical fiber from RRU need to be routed using clamps.
2、Installation procedures-Installing antenna
Install a P&E cable
• Unscrew the PG cover installed on the P&E port of the RTN 310 using a 1.8 Nm
torque wrench (rotating the wrench counterclockwise).
• Attach a cable tie to the network cable to prevent the PG cover from sliding down.
• Route the network cable through the PG cover and connect the cable to the P&E port
of the RTN 310.
• Insert a plug into the P&E port and screw the PG cover.
2、Installation procedures-Installing antenna
Installing an Indoor PI
• Insert a PI into a slot on the auxiliary mounting bracket and tighten the captive
screws on the mounting ears.
• Tighten floating nuts.
• Install the chassis in the cabinet.
• Install the PGND cable.
2、Installation procedures-Installing antenna
• If two or three PIs are installed on the same auxiliary mounting bracket,
cables of the PIs must be laid out to meet the requirements of the site.
Generally, power cables are routed along the left side of the cabinet and
service cables are routed along the right side of the cabinet.

2、Installation procedures-Installing antenna
Installing an Outdoor Optical Splitter(Contd..)
• Secure the outdoor optical splitter on the mounting assembly and tighten the lower
hose clamp.
• Route in and secure fibers.
• Before powering on the equipment, ensure that the GE cable used for providing power over Ethernet and the PI
power cable have been installed.
• The indoor PI works in PSE-PD mode. If the indoor PI is powered on and works in FORCE mode, disconnect the
input power cable from the PI and push the power output switch of the PI to the PSE-PD side.
• During maintenance, the power-off time of the equipment must not be longer than 24 hours.
• Switch on the power supply device connected to the PI.(In normal cases, the DC IN and P&E OUT indicators are
steady green. For the indicator status description, see the Product Description).
• Check the system indicator on the RTN 310.(In normal cases, the system indicator is on)
2、Installation procedures-Installing antenna
Powering On the RTN 310 Supplied by an Outdoor PI
• Before powering on the equipment, ensure that the P&E cable and the PI power cable are installed.
• DIP switches are set correctly, and the DIP switch for setting the PoE mode for the used P&E port is turned
to the PSE-PD side. After setting the DIP switches, switch off the power supply. After waiting for 6 seconds,
switch on the power supply again.
• During maintenance, the power-off time of the equipment cannot be longer than 24 hours.
• Switch on the power supply device connected to the PI.(In normal conditions, POWER and P&E OUT
indicators are on (green). For a description of indicator states, see the PI installation guide.)
• Check the system indicator on the RTN 310.(In normal cases, the system indicator is on.)
2、Installation procedures-Installing antenna
Powering On the RTN 310 Supplied by an Outdoor PI(Contd..)
1. Use the Web LCT to enable the PoE function for the interconnected port on the EG4P board of the RTN
900.
• In the NE Explorer, select the desired NE from the Object Tree and choose Configuration > Interface
Management > Ethernet Interface from the Function Tree.
• Click the Advanced Attributes tab.
• Set POE to Enabled for the port that provides power over Ethernet to the RTN 310.
• Click Apply.
2. Check the system indicator on the RTN 310.
2、Installation procedures-Installing antenna
When a P&E port on the OptiX RTN 900 is connected to a device other than
OptiX RTN 300, the PoE function must be disabled. Otherwise, the peer
device may be damaged.
In normal cases:
•The power over Ethernet indicator of
the EG4P board on the RTN 900 is
steady green, and the L/A3 indicator is
steady green or blinks yellow.
•The system indicator on the RTN 310
is on.
