Ask: What are the objects that can be recycle?
What do you do in the used objects like plastic
bottles, used papers, glass bottles etc,. What are
the good effects of recycling in our environment?
Presentation
The Richard and Francis collected used
plastic bottles for recycling. They arranged
the bottles in boxes of 8 and 12. What is the
least number of bottles they gathered in all?
There are three ways of getting the LCM:
1. The Listing Method
2. Prime Factorization
3. The Continuous Division.
How to Solve LCM using
Continuous Division
LCM of 8 and 12 using Continuous Division
2 8 , 12
2 4 , 6
2 , 3
2 x 2 x 2 x 3 = 24
Another Example:
LCM of 20 and 16
LCM of 20 and 16 using Continuous Division
2 20 , 16
2 10 , 8
5 , 4
2 x 2 x 5 x 4 = 80
Find the least common multiples of the following pairs of
numbers using continuous division.
1) 12 and 16
2) 6 , 9 and 18
3) 7, 9, 21 and 63
LCM of 12 and 16 using Continuous Division
2 12 , 16
2 6 , 8
3 , 4
2 x 2 x 3 x 4 = 48
LCM of 6, 9 and 18 using Continuous Division
3 6, 9, 18
2 , 3, 6
3 x 2 x 3 x 6 = 108
LCM of 7, 9, 21 and 63 using Continuous Division
7 , 9, 21 63
7 x 9 x 21 x63= 83 349
Assessment
Find the Least Common Multiple (LCM) of the given pairs of
numbers by continuous division.
1) 12 and 18 LCM= 36
2) 11 and 99 LCM= 99
3) 5, 10 and 30 LCM= 30
4) 4, 5 and 16 LCM= 320
5) 9, 54, 90 and 108 LCM= 6 480
Remediation
Find the LCM of the following numbers.
1)4, 6 ,12 2) 3, 6 15
Enrichment
Find the LCM of the following numbers.
3) 4 and 15 4) 13, 26 and 52 5) 6, 12, 60
and 78
