General Format/Guidelines:

American Psychological
Association (APA)
The Don Honorio Ventura Technological
State University Graduate School Manual
was conceived to establish uniformity as to
style and format in the preparation of
thesis/dissertation.
Basic Page Setup

Margins are to be
1" from top,
1" from bottom
1.5" from left
1" from right sides

Sentences are double-spaced in all situations.
Acceptable typeface is Times New Roman and
in 12-point size (flexible in cover page).
Justification is only on the left side of the
paper. In other words, the text on the right
side of the paper should have ragged edges.

Page numbers are placed in the header in the
top right corner of the page.
All pages except the title page are numbered
including references and appendices.
The title page is not numbered. All other
pages (except preliminaries)are numbered
sequentially.

Every new paragraph is indented five spaces,


or one-half inch.

Preliminary Parts
The preliminary parts of research report are
the following:

1. Title page
2. Approval sheets
3. Acknowledgements
4. Abstract
5. Table of Contents
6. List of Tables
7. List of Figures
8. List of Appendices
Title Page
The title page is composed of the following:
Research project title, Type centered in all
capital letters, inverted pyramid, single
spaced.
Classification of the paper (if it is a research
project)/ typed on the 9th single spaced line
from the last line of the title.
Title Page
Name/s of research/s (all caps., full name of
the researcher/s staring with the first name,
then middle initial, and the family name;
typed on the 9th single spaced line from the
classification of the paper.
Title Page
Date (the month and the year the
thesis/dissertation is completed). Do not put
comma after the month.
NOTE: Avoid abbreviations.

Approval Sheet. The approval sheet follows
immediately after the title page. Generally, it
contains the statements of recommendations
and approval.

ACKNOWLEDGMENTS
This includes names of institutions or people
who extended help and support in the course
of making of the thesis. Designation/position
of the person should be indicated. The author
is free to decide on the order/hierarchy of
persons to be acknowledged. It is suggested,
however, that funding institutions, if there
are, are mentioned first.

ABSTRACT

 This contains essential statements about the


whole paper. It includes description of the
study, methodology, major findings,
conclusions and recommendations. This
should be a one-page summary of the
paper.

TABLE OF CONTENTS

 The table of contents presents an orderly


list of the preliminary parts, the chapter
titles, with the sub-sections of the body of
the research, the words “References” and
Appendices,” and the materials in the
appendices for easy reference.
