Objective of the slide

To determine the strength of bolted joint in

wood.

To study the failure characteristics of bolted

joint.
INTRODUCTION
 BOLTED JOINT : Bolted joint one of the most common
elements in construction and machine design the consist of
fasteners that capture and join other parts and are secured
with the mating of screw threads. There are two main types
of bolted joint:
a) Lap joint
b) Butt joint

YIELD POINT : The yield point is the point on stress-
strain curve that indicates the limit of elastic
behavior and the beginning of plastic behavior.

 PROPORTIONAL LIMIT : Highest stress at which stress

is directly proportional to strain . It is the highest
stress at which the curve in a stress-strain diagram is
straight line.

DISCUSSION
This test was based on determination of yield load and proportional
limit and also find the failure criteria of bolted joint in wood
subjected to compression load . Yield load, proportional limit, has
been determined through the help of plain graph which was plotted
load vs. deformation graph .The yield load has been found 17.33 KN,
and proportional limit 10.5 KN, and the failure criteria was bearing
failure of the wood section by the attached bolt on the hole . Yield
load has been determined through an offset method with respect to
5% of bolt diameter.
