How to generate public

awareness
There is rapid destructions of environment from 1950
to 2018. This has led to environmental problems---
global warming, acid rain, desertification,
deforestation, climate change. We have to reverse the
trend.

Ways to reverse the trend are (i) Legal mechanism; (ii)

Industrial incentives and disincentives; (iii) public
awareness. There are plenty of laws, but it has not
produced results. Incentives to industry has not
worked. One has to rely on public awareness to protect
environment.
Awareness is knowledge, perception of
situation or fact. If you have awareness you
don’t require a degree. Good touch and bad
touch is awareness. Silence is happiness is
also awareness. Albert Einstein was a petty
patent office clerk, who tremendously
contributed to science. Bill Gates was a
school drop-out who raised the MicroSoft.
Nothing can protect environment, except
awareness. Happiness does not lie in the
objects, but in the inner self.
Ways to generate public awareness: -
(i) Join an environmental group (WWF-I,
PETA, Green Peace, Goa Bachao Andolan,
Vivekananda Brigade, etc);
(ii) organize, dramas, street plays, seminars,
workshops, talks, film shows based on
environmental issues;
(iii) Use of public figures or celebrities like
film stars, businesspersons, journalists, sport
stars, artistes (painter, singer, dancers)
administrators, politicians to promote
environmental message;
(v) Use electronic media (internet, television
and radio) print media (newspapers,
magazines) and folk media (dance, music,
plays, puppet shows) to make people aware
regarding our environment. Use of social
networking sites--- facebook, tweeter,
instagram;
vi) Participate in rallies, morchas and other
forms of peaceful expression to protect
environmental concerns;
vii) Hug a tree
viii) Set your own example or become a role
model by (a) buy eco-friendly products; (b)
use solar/ bio/ tidal/wind and other forms
of alternate sources of energy; (c) conserve
energy, water and food; (d) foster respect for
all forms of life; and (e) plant a tree.
The mechanical view of life says that
environment is a machine. Earth is not a
machine. There is limit to exploitation of
natural resources.
Earth is not an inanimate or lifeless entity.
Everything has life. A river is a semi-living
entity. A human being is connected with the
Society; the Nature; and the Universe. There
is connect charge.
There is lot of material progress, but there is
no peace of mind. People have become
active and sensitive. But, they have become
hyper-active and hyper-sensitive. There is
speed and more speed in modern life. We
forget that the happiness lies within and not
outside. This is why there is degradation of
environment.
