PAPER SLUDGE IN CONSTRUCTION INDUSTRY” PRESENTATION OUTLINE INTRODUCTION OBJECTIVES MATERIAL USED METHODOLOGY LITRATURE REVIEW EXPECTED OUTCOME INTRODUCTION
Manufacturing of 1 ton of paper = 300Kg dry sludge
3-8 cycles of possible recycling Present use of residual sludge: a). In landfill b). Incineration for energy recovery High volume of waste, potential for re – use Solution of waste management problems New resource for construction industry Reduction in co2 emission Supplementary cementitious material Partial replacement of binders in concrete OBJECTIVES 1) To study the properties of concrete in fresh state. 2) To study the properties of concrete in hardened state and to determine the density , water absorption test, compressive strength test, split tensile strength, and flexural strength . 3) To determine the optimum percentage of paper sludge to make quality concrete. 4) To determine the X RAY DIFRACTION test and PULSE VELOCITY test. 5) Comparison of the results of various characteristics with control mix. MARETIAL USED 1)Cement The most common cement used is an Ordinary Portland Cement (OPC). The Ordinary Portland Cement of 53 grade conforming to IS:8112-1989 is used. Many tests were conducted on cement; some of them are specific gravity, consistency tests, setting time tests, compressive strengths, etc. 2) Hypo Sludge In the Present Study, Paper Sludge is used to replace cement was collected from a local paper making factory is collected from south India paper mills limited mysore district, Thandavapura, Karnataka. 3) Coarse Aggregate Machine crushed Hard Granite stones confirming to IS-383-1970 consisting of 20mm maximum size of aggregate has been obtained from local quarry it has been tested physical and mechanical properties. It should be free from impurities such as dust, clay particles and organic matters etc .The mix was done for 60% of 12.5mm size and 40% of 12.5mm down size.
4) Fine aggregate Locally available sand obtained from reliable supplier passing through 4.75 mm sieve was used in the study. It should be clean, hard, strong and free from organic impurities and deleterious substance.
5) Water Water is an important ingredient of concrete as it actually participates in the chemical reaction with cement. Since it helps to from the strength giving cement gel, the quantity and quality of water is required to be looked into very carefully. METHODOLOGY
Testing the material properties as per Indian
standards code procedure casting and curing the concrete specimens as per Indian standard code The characteristic strength of hardened concrete specimen was tested as per IS 456:2000 LITRATURE REVIEW Jayesh Kumar Pitroda (2013): experimentally investigated the paper industry waste (hypo sludge) as partial replacement with cement in concrete. This paper reports the results of experiment evaluating the use of hypo sludge from paper industry as partial replacement for ordinary port land cement in cement concrete, The cement was replaced by hypo sludge accordingly in the range 0% (without hypo sludge),10%,20%,30%, and 40% by weight for M-25 and M-40 mix. . The compressive strength was determined at curing age of 7 days 14 days and 28 days respectively where split tensile strength was determined at curing age of 56 days. . As a result, the compressive strength of concrete increased up to 10% addition of hypo sludge and further increase in hypo sludge reduces the strength gradually. Sajad Ahmad , experimentally investigated the partial replacement of cement with waste paper sludge ash. The aim of this study is to develop alternative binder to make concrete industry sustainable and to examine the feasibility of utilization the waste paper sludge ash as partial cement replacement material. The scope of this study is to cast the concrete specimens and conduct the compressive test, split tensile strength test water absorption test and dry density test, with specified combination of waste paper sludge .In this project M25 concrete is designed for various combinations. In this study waste paper sludge ash was partially replaced as 5% , 10%,15%,20% of weight of cement. Concrete is cast and compressive test, split tensile strength test, durability test, water absorption test and dry density test was carried out to find the best combination which results in optimum percentage of strength. EXPECTED OUTPUT The physical observation such as the effect of adding waste paper sludge as partial replacement for cement can give us valuable information regarding to the various strength parameter of concrete. The increase in the addition of waste paper sludge may increase the strength of concrete up to certain limit and further increase in the addition of waste paper may decrease the strength of concrete. It may also help us to reduce the total cost of cement and concrete manufacturing, thus helping in reduction of landfill cost, saving energy and protecting the environment from possible pollution effects.
