EXPLANATION TEXT
 Definition of Explanation Text
Explanation text is a text that contains the process of why and
how natural, scientific, social, cultural and other events can occur

 Structure of Explanation Text

1. General statement : contains a general statement on the
topic that will be explained by the process of occurrence /
process of existence.
2. Order of Cause and Effect : contains details of the
explanation of the process of occurrence which is presented
in sequence or in stages from the earliest to the last.
3. Interpretation : contains conclusions about the topics
described.
General Statement
TSUNAMI

Tsunami comes from Japanese and consists of 2 syllables

namely “tsu” (pelabuhan) dan “nami” (gelombang). Scientists
usually interpret it as it is called tidal wave (gelombang pasang) or
seismic sea waves (gelombang laut akibat gempa).

Tsunami are ocean waves that come suddenly at high speeds

that lead to the coastal area, caused by volcanic activity or
earthquakes under the sea.
Sequence of Cause and Effect:
When an earthquake occurs and the surface of the sea floor goes up and down
along the fault, that's when the tsunami is formed. The fault causes disturbed sea
water balance. Large faults will produce large waves too. Shortly after the
earthquake occurred, the sea water will recede. And it will return to land in the
form of a large wave (tsunami).

Tsunamis also occur due to volcanic eruptions on the seabed which result in
high movement of sea water or nearby waters. Tsunamis have a wave velocity
greater than ordinary waves. Even up to 700km / hour and almost the same as
the speed of the aircraft.

Usually the tsunami wave height is 50-100 meters and spreads in all directions.
The tsunami height is also influenced by the shape and depth of the coast.
Therefore the earthquake on the sea floor is very possible for a tsunami to occur.
Closing/Conclusion (interpretation)

In fact, tsunamis are one of the natural events that are very
dangerous for humans because they can cause great damage
and can even take thousands of lives at once if they occur
suddenly.

Therefore we must be vigilant at all times and prepare ourselves

to deal with tsunami natural disasters. Although not all
earthquakes and volcanic eruptions on the seabed cause
tsunamis.
