Napoleon Abueva

-was born on January 26,1930 in bohol. When the was inhis teens., his parents Teodoro
Abueva and purificacion veloso were tortured and killed by Japanese invoders for supporting
guerilla forces
-the harrowing experience of having to listen to their agony tought him to look for new avenues
of expressing ideas. As a way of dialing with the pain. With a passion for art, he moved to
manila and studied at Up deliman after graduating high school in 1949. Whilr there, hr was
taken under the tutelage of national artist Guillerno Tolentino
-is a filipino artist and called as the father of modern Philippines sculpture
-he is sculpture given the distinction as the Philippine national artist for sculpture
-he is the only first boholano given the destination as national artist of the Philippines in the
field of visual arts

Roberto "Bobby" Chabet

- acknowledge as the father of Philippine conceptual art


-born on march 29,1937
-he was a teacher and a mentor as well as an artist and sculptor in his own right
and his conceptual art installations in the 60s and 70s were considered as
renegade works
-the describes himself as a custodian and his work as "creatures of Memory "
-he was the founding museum director of the cultural centor of the Philippines
from 1967-1970, where he established the 13 artist awards, that highlight the
achievement of young artist whose works Show a contemporary View of a art
making and thinking

Agnes Arellano (1949­present)

-born to a family of prominent male architect, sculpture


-best known for her surrealist and expressionist work in plaster, bronze and cold
cast marble
-her work explores themes of creation and destruction and the cycles of life from
birth to death

Fernando Amorsolo  (30 Mayo 1892 ­ 24 
April 1972) 

-was one of the most important artists in the history of painting in the Philippines
-Amorsolo was a portraitist and painter of rural Philippine landscapes
-he is popularly known for his craftsmanship and mastery in the use of light
-after graduating from the University of the Philippines, Amorsolo worked as a
draftsman for the Bureau of Public Works, as a chief artist at the Pacific
Commercial Company, and as a part-time instructor at the University of the
Philippines (where he would work for 38 years).
-during his seven months in Spain, Amorsolo sketched at museums and along the
streets of Madrid, experimenting with the use of light and color.
Amorsolo’s Masterpiece

-defence of a Filipina Woman's Honour, which is representative of Amorsolo's


World War II-era paintings. Here, a Filipino man defends a woman, who is either
his wife or daughter, from being raped by an unseen Japanese soldier. Note the

Ang Kiukok (March 1, 1931 – 
May 9, 2005) 
– was a Filipino painter of Chinese descent and was a National Artist for Visual Arts.
– was the only son in his family and he had four sisters. He was originally intended
to be named Ang Hua Shing ("Hua Shing" literally means "Chinese-born") but did
not push through with the plan upon learning that his cousin was given the name
by his uncle.
– His influence at the time was the artworks of Qi Baishi.[1] After World War II, the
family moved to Cotabato. Ang made movie billboards here and later his family
moved to Manila, where he attended the University of Santo Tomas where one of
his mentors was Vicente Manansala.[3] He studied in the university from 1952 to
1954.

Benedicto Cabrera

– better known as "BenCab",is a Filipino painter and was awarded National Artist of the
Philippines for Visual Arts (Painting) in 2006. He has been noted as "arguably the best-
selling painter of his generation of Filipino artists."
– BenCab was born to Democrito Cabrera and Isabel Reyes in Malabon, Philippines on April
10, 1942. He was the youngest of nine children. BenCab's first exposure and discovery of
the arts happened through his elder Brother Salvador, who was already an established
artist during Bencab's childhood.

– He went on to study at the University of the Philippines Diliman, where he explored


different art visual forms - photography, draftsmanship, printmaking - while honing his
chosen craft as a painter. He received his bachelor's degree in Fine Arts in 1963.
Cabrera’s Masterpiece

– major subject that recurs through BenCab’s works through the decades,
inspired by a real-life scavenger, he photographed and sketched in 1965,
the Sabel image has become the artists vehicle for the transmission of
intensely emotional moods. When pushed to the limits of abstraction, the
Sabel image serves as a fertile ground for the investigation of shape and
structure.
