THE GEOLOGIC PROCESSES

THAT CAUSES HAZARDS

OBJECTIVES:

To give information about Geologic Processes

To determine the different kinds of hazards in Geologic

Processes

To have more knowledge about how to prevent this kinds of

hazards
What are the Geologic
Processes that causes
hazards?
Are you familiar
with the given
pictures?
Did you ever
encounter one
of this?
Nature is beautiful…
but it can also be dangerous. It causes also billions of dollars in
property damage and kill thousands of people every year,
capable of causing damage or loss of property and life.
WHAT IS GEOLOGIC HAZARD?
Geologic Hazard is one
of several types of
adverse geologic con-
ditions capable of
causing damage or loss
of property and life.
Geologic Hazard is consist of 2 phenomenas:
• Sudden Phenomena
• Slow phenomena

Their are several kinds of Geologic Hazards, and

some of this are in my examples
• Sudden phenomena includes:
Landslides

-is defined as the movement of a mass of rock, debris, or earth down

a slope. It is a type of “mass wasting” which denotes any down-slope
movement of soil and rock under the direct influence of gravity.
SOME WAYS TO PREVENT LANDSLIDES:
1. Maintain as much vegetation as possible on the
slope to help retain the soil.
2. Do not put yard waste on the slope
3. Do not add additional water from downspouts to
slopes from storm water runoff being directed to
a hillside.
4. Don’t locate swimming pools near a slope
WAYS TO SURVIVE/TO KEEP SAFE FROM LANDSLIDES:

Keep yourself Listen to a local Evacuate if it Be cautious and

alert and awake news station for safe to do so alert while driving
updates
Move out of the path Avoid river valleys Curl into a ball if
Move to a 2nd you cannot
of the landslide as and other low
story, if possible quickly as you can areas escape
Earthquake

-(also known as a quake, tremor or temblor) is the shaking of

the surface of the Earth, resulting from the sudden release of
energy in the Earth’s lithosphere that creates seismic waves. We
can’t prevent this kind of phenomena because it is unpredictable.
WAYS TO SURVIVE/TO KEEP SAFE FROM
EARTHQUAKE:
1. Get away 2. Drop to your
from glass, large hands and
furniture, and knees under a
other hazards sturdy table or
desk

3. Remain in
your safe spot
until the shaking
stops
4. Use caution 5. Check for
around debris injuries and
after leaving render aid, if
your shelter needed

6. Inspect the
building for
structural
damage and
hazards
Slow phenomena include:
Liquefaction

-is a process by which water-saturated sediment temporarily loses

strength and acts as a fluid, like when you wiggle your toes in the wet
sand near the water at the beach. This effect can be caused by
earthquake shaking.
3 POSSIBLE WAYS TO SOMEHOW
PREVENT LIQUEFACTION

•Avoid Liquefaction
1. Susceptible Soils

•Build Liquefaction
2. Resistant Structures

Improve the soil

3.
We don’t have any other known planet beside earth in this universe
where life is possible. The natural resources found on earth are
deteriorating day by day because of various wrong practices of
human beings. Though it puts us sometimes in danger, we should not
add more cruel things that can damage and can cause hazards on it.
Therefore, it is our responsibility to maintain its natural quality
and greenery environment. We should not waste and pollute
its natural resources for our small benefits, because Earth is
our precious mother planet that gives us all the necessary
things we need in life which was made by our creator.
THAT’S ALL THANK YOU!!
