Introduction:

• Organic farming works in harmony with

nature rather than against it. This involves using
techniques to achieve good crop yields without
harming the natural environment or the people
who live and work in it
History of organic farming :
• Organic farming was practiced in India since thousand of
years . agriculture was practiced using organic techniques,
where the fertilizer’s , pesticides , etc were obtained from
plant & animal products.
• Post-independent India witnessed severe food crisis.
• India depended on heavy imports of food for aid from
western countries.
• Green revolution introduced in 1970’s changed the situation
from food impoter to food exporter by 1990.
Types of organic farming :

• Perm culture

• Ranching

• Hydroponics

• Dry land Farming

Aims of organic farming :

• To maintain the long term fertility of the soil.

• To reduce the input cost.
• To effectively utilize the natural resources.
• To avoid all forms of pollution caused by
agriculture techniques.
• To provide a quality foodstuff.
Techniques in organic farming :
• Mulching

• Bio-fertilizers

• Vermicompost

• Seed treatment
Advantage of organic farming

• Crop, meat and other food are produced without

chemical.
• Healthier for farm workers.
• It can slow down global warming.
• Pollution of ground water is stopped.
• It save energy & protect the environment. ect
Disadvantage of organic farming

• Organic food is more expensive

• Production costs are higher
• Marketing and distribution is not efficient
• Organic farming cannot produce enough food
• Cross Breeding Problem
• Labor Charges
Benefits of organic farm :
• Reduced Exposure to Pesticides and Chemicals
• Organic Farming Builds Healthy Soil
• Fighting the Effects of Global Warming
• Organic Farming Supports Water Conservation and
Water Health
• Supporting Animal Health and Welfare
• Organic Farming Encourages Biodiversity.
Conclusion :

• Biological research into soil and soil organisms has

proven beneficial to organic farming. Varieties of bacteria and
fungi break down chemicals, plant matter and animal waste
into productive soil nutrients. In turn, they produce benefits of
healthier yields and more productive soil for future crops.
Organic farming is a rapidly expanding economic sector and
makes an important contribution to human health, the health
of the economy, and the health of the planet. ... Because of the
many benefits of organic farming, public policies should
support investing in the expanding organic sector.
