(1) DEFINITION
 Burnout is not an official term or diagnosis.
 Refer to the inability to handle the pressures related to work.

 Depression is a complex disease.


 Diagnosed with main symptoms lasting for more than 2 weeks.

(2) CAUSES:
 Burnout is specific problem related to stress in the workplace.
 A person could be burned out at work but functioning well in another area.

 Depression is broader, context-free and presenting in all areas of our lives.


 Depression often persists in every situation of individual’s life.

(3) SIGN AND SYMPTOMS:


 Depression has certain symptoms that burnout doesn’t
usually have, including:
 Loss of interest
 Feelings of hopelessness
 Recurrent thoughts of suicide or death !!

 Burnout: adjustments made in relation to work will typically help
 Quickly return to normal if remove from the situation.
 Depression: other important treatments such as therapy or medication.
