What is SharePoint?
• SharePoint isn't a program, it's a platform.
• SharePoint is a browser-based collaboration,
document management platform and content
management system from Microsoft.

• It allows groups to set up a centralized,


password-protected space for document sharing.

• Documents can be stored, downloaded and


edited, then uploaded for continued sharing.

Visio you can build custom workflows forms.
Editions of SharePoint
• SharePoint comes as two different forms.
1. SharePoint Server: locally-hosted platform that your
company owns and operates. You will be responsible for
everything from server architecture , active directory all the
way down to file storage.

2. SharePoint Online: Cloud based service provided


directly from Microsoft.

SharePoint Online is the perfect solution. For larger


companies who rely on powerful custom applications
and who’ve invested heavily in SharePoint servers and
IT staff.
Advantages of SharePoint

• Powerful, fast search Engine.
• Flexible Web Browser
• Scalable infrastructure (build & add apps and
Services)
Disadvantages of SharePoint

• It can not be deployed in small environment.


• Most of the features won't work on phone.
• SharePoint Server takes huge amounts of
resources from IT to set up and maintain.
• Endpoint users will find it very difficult to use.
