Who’s the best test bowler in the past six months

Based on their no. of Wickets, Economy, Strike-Rate, Average

 The ICC World Test Championship’s just around the
corner. The inaugural edition of this tournament starts
right after the ICC World Cup 2019 England & Wales is
over.

 In preparation for the World Cup teams didn’t have time

to get a XI sorted out around which they can win the
inaugural test championship. So we have tried to help.

 After all bowlers win you test matches, don’t they? So we

have sorted out their top 4 bowlers from the past six
months of test cricket (November ’18- April ‘19). With
four players out of the XI sorted out they can now build
a team accordingly. This will only make the competition
much more hard-fought and take it to a whole new level
of thrill and excitement.
We offer a statistical analysis of the
performance of all the bowlers of the nine
teams that are going to compete for the
inaugural test championship.
 Design
 Here it is being aimed to sort out bowlers who have had given the best performances in
test matches for last six months (dating from 1st November ’18 to 30th April ’19). Then
that bowler is selected who has impacted the result of the game more than anyone else.
He is the result of this project.

 Collection of Data
 First of all scorecards for the past six months are surveyed from a cricket
entertaining-sports site (in this case from ESPNcricinfo.com @
http://www.espncricinfo.com/).
 And then data is collected: which bowler for which team:
i) bowled in how many inning
ii) bowled what number of overs
iii) gave away how many runs
iv) took what number of wickets
v) at what avg., st.rate, and eco.
 Processing
 Such data of every match is then added to the respective bowler’s stats.
 After obtaining the all the data for each country’s bowlers, using statistical skills and
techniques, the top 4 are selected from each country.
 This should be done on the basis of the aforementioned priority order.
 4 from each country, for 9 countries gives us the top-36 test match bowlers for the last
six months.
 From which we shall pick a winner, i.e., the finding of this project.
 After analysis using statistics and making separate lists for the
four aforementioned criteria, we get four lists of bowlers
starting from the best to the one who’s least good. Which are:
On the basis of Wickets: D. Oliver [34 Wickets]
On the basis of Economy: R. Ashwin [1.72 RpO.*]
On the basis of St. Rate: D. Oliver [26.29 BpW.**]
On the basis of Average: C. Grandhomme [15.47 RpW***]

 Thus, on the basis of this analysis it is clear that ‘D. Oliver’, of

South Africa is the best bowler.

 *: Runs per Over

 **: Balls per Wicket
 ***: Runs per Wicket
