smoothly and adaptively carryout complex
activities or job functions involving ideas,
things and people.
 Globalization, knowledge and competition
have intensified the need for highly skilled
workforce in both the developing and
developed nation as it enables them to
accelerate the growth rate of their economy
towards higher trajectory.
 Skills development become the major driving
force of socio-economic growth and
development for any country.
 38% of Indian workforce is illiterate, for more
improvement skill development is important.
 About 80% of Indian workforce does not
posses any marketable skills.
 Only about 2% people have received formal
vocational training and 8% non-formal
vocational training, thereby implying that very
few new entrants to the work force have any
marketable skills.
 For better industrial development and use new
technology with any barrier skill development
need in developing country like India.
 Government laid the foundation of “Indian
Institute of Skills” in the country in Kanpur.
 “Skill India” started by respected Prime
Minister Narendra Modi it was a biggest step
taken by him.
 Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana (PMKVY)
launched on July 15, 2015 with objective to
mobilize a large number of Indian youth to
take up outcome based skill training.
 National Apprentice Promotion Scheme
scheme of Government of India to promote
apprenticeship training.
 Demand & Supply Mismatch - The demand made by the
industries and supply of labour force mismatch.
 Geographical Problem – In larger economies like India as
the geographical set-up or outreach of the people for
skills in India are uneven and in dismal share.
 Low Educational Attainment – Current annual capacity
of India is 4.3 million, which is 20% less than the
industrial requirement of 22 million skilled workers a
year.
 Skill Development For Women – In India, women also
form an integral part of the workforce; but the working
percentage rate of women in workforce is declining.
To make India internationally competitive and
to boost its economic growth further, a skilled
workforce is essential. As more and more India
moves towards the Knowledge economy, it
becomes increasingly important for it to focus on
advancement of the skills have to be relevant to
the emerging economic system environment. For
transforming its demographic dividend, an
efficient skill development system is the need of
the hour. Therefore to achieve its ambitions
skilling target, it is imperative to have holistic
solutions of the challenges instead of piecemeal
interventions.
