THE PROBLEM AND ITS BACKGROUND

 From JournalRepository.org, Mueen, stated that there are several factors which affect students’

performance in speaking English fluently; such as, lack of adequate and appropriate vocabulary,

shyness, nervous, fearful to speak, and lack of confidence. Harry stated that “anxiety and depression

are just two effective factors that contribute to learning difficulties or are the result of learning difficulties.

The impact of persistent failure can adversely affect a pupil’s self-esteem, confidence, perceived self-

efficacy, attitude and motivation. When confronted by certain tasks pupils may develop anxious feelings,

fearing they will fail.”

STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM

 1. What is the profile of the respondents in terms of:

A.) Gender
B.) Age
C.) Year and Major
 2. What are the impacts of Social Interaction to an Individual’s English Communication Skills?
 3. How does Social Interaction affect Senior High School Students’ English Communication Skills?
 4. Is Social Interaction essential to the development of English Communication Skills?
 5. How does the survey help the researchers learn to learn more about the impacts of social interaction to the English
Communication Skills?
SIGNIFICANCE OF THE STUDY

This study will benefit the following individuals and it would also deepen the knowledge of each about the topic.

A) Students: Students would be more aware how they would develop their English communication skills through interaction with their

surroundings

B) Teachers: This study can be a way for teachers to determine what interaction their students need to develop their English

communication skills.

C) Community: The community would know how they affect an individual’s English communication skills through interaction and work on

their indifferences.

D) Future Researchers: This would serve as a guide for future researchers with the same study. It can also be an additional source

evidence and facts

HYPOTHESIS

Based on the objectives of the research, the following hypotheses are formulated

to be used as a guide for this study:

 Social Interaction has a significant impact to an individual’s English

Communication Skills.

 Social Interaction does not have a significant impact to an individual’s English

Communication Skills.
SCOPE AND LIMITATIONS

This study aims to determine the impact of social interaction to an individual’s capability in terms of expressing

English communication skills. The research will be conducted in STI COLLEGE CUBAO, QUEZON CITY, during the

school year 2019-2020. The respondents are selected randomly, in which every female and male students of the senior

high school with ages of 16 – 20 will be used to cover in the survey.

RESEARCH DESIGN

This research is anchored on a quantitative approach which focuses on gathering numerical

data, which is collected through polls, questionnaires, and surveys, and it also focuses on

generalizing it across groups of people or to explain a phenomenon. The researchers will be using

a non-experimental design, which is the survey- this type of design describes the stand or

experience of the respondents.

LOCALE OF STUDY
This research will be conducted at STI College Cubao, wherein the students will stand as

the respondents for this study. STI College Cubao is not only a school for college students, but

it is also a school for senior high school students as well. Thus, the senior high school students

are the chosen respondents due to their large population.

POPULATION OR SAMPLE OF THE STUDY

• The target population of this research are the grade 11 and 12 students, wherein they are the

chosen respondents that is within the researchers' reach.

• The table shows the population of the senior high school students per strand/sections.

In Grade 11, they have 7 sections, in total of 271 students, and in Grade 12, they have 9 sections, in total of

279 students. All in all, they have 550 students.

• The researchers will be selecting 10 students per class and the grand total of students that will be selected in

senior high school is 160.

SAMPLING TECHNIQUE

The technique being chosen by the researchers is the simple random sampling,

wherein everyone is chosen entirely by chance, and each member of the population has

an equal chance of being selected. We chose this type of sampling because it is fairly

simple as the name indicates, it is an ease to use and it is accurate.

ESTABLISHING THE VALIDITY AND RELIABILITY

The researchers’ ideas and point of view will not affect the results that will originate from

the respondents. Each respondent will be given a questionnaire that will be answered with

ample time to consider matters fairly. The data will be gathered, examined and calculated

properly. In order to establish the validity and reliability of the results, every recorded

evidences will be presented as proof that none of the final results are manipulated.
RESEARCH INSTRUMENT
The researchers will be using questionnaire or survey form as the instrument for this study. The type of

survey that will be use is the Matrix Questions or known as Likert Scale, these questions are open ended, and

the respondents are being task to evaluate one to several rows or choices. The survey will last for 5-10

minutes, and the respondents will be the senior high school students of STI College Cubao. Finally, there will

be no criteria in choosing the respondents.

STATISTICAL TREATMENT OF DATA

a. Mean (x)

- Is used to determine the extent of effectivity level of the respondents

regarding English textbooks and IM. The formula of the mean is given by:

f
%=
N

Where:

% = Percentage

F= Frequency

N + overall number of population

STATISTICAL TREATMENT OF DATA

a. Slovin’s Formula – used to calculate the sample size (n) given the

population size (N) and a margin of error €. It is a random sampling

technique formula to estimate sampling size.

𝑁

1 + 𝑁𝑒 2

Where:

n = total number of respondents

N = total population

e = margin of error
