BANDURA’S

SELF-
EFFICACY

PRESENTED BY:
ALBERT BANDURA ELOISA GEARDINNE PASCUA
QUOTATION:

“In order to succeed, people need a sense of self-

efficacy, to struggle together with resilience to
meet the inevitable obstacles and inequities of
life.” – Albert Bandura
OBJECTIVES:

1. Discuss Bandura’s self-efficacy

2. Relate Bandura’s self- efficacy to one’s self
growth
3. Student reflects and measure their self- efficacy
with the given scales and questionnaires
MOTIVATIONAL ACTIVITY:
SELF- EFFICHARADES

Direction: Each group has an initial 100 points.

They will select a pair to act out the word or
phrase from the list. Rest of the class must guess
and whoever earns highest points will be the
winner.
STRUCTURED LEARNING
ACTIVITY: GENERAL SELF-
EFFICACY SCALE (Schwarzer, 1995)
DISCUSSION:
ALBERT BANDURA

Born on December 4, 1925, is a Canadian- American psychologist, author and

have a most founding contributions to field of Psychology including social
cognitive and personality psychology.

He is also known for his concepts about Social Learning Theory and self-
efficacy; as well as the Bobo doll experiment

Bandura shows that everyone’s motivation to do things, the effort the

individual put into doing it, and the personal feeling, while the individual does
it, all derive from the individual’s belief in its own capabilities.
SOCIAL LEARNING THEORY

Social Learning Theory, theorized by Albert Bandura, posits

that people learn from one another, via observation, imitation,
and modeling. The theory has often been called a bridge
between behaviorist and cognitive learning theories because it
encompasses attention, memory, and motivation.
SOCIAL COGNITIVE THEORY AND SELF-
EFFICACY
Social Cognitive Theory includes the idea of self-
efficacy and it is based on 6 constructs
1. Reciprocal Determinism- active connection of
person and behavior
2. Behavioral Capability- individual’s ability to
perform the appropriate behavior
3. Observational Learning- Learning a new skill or piece
of knowledge by observing others
4. Reinforcements- external responses to the external
behavior that either encourage or discourage the
behavior
5. Expectations- anticipated consequences of behavior
6. Self- efficacy- person’s confidence in his or her ability
to perform behavior.
BANDURA’S SELF- EFFICACY

As people judgements of their capabilities

to organize and execute courses of action
required to attain designated types of
performances.
(Bandura, 1977) Self-Efficacy:
Toward a Unifying Theory of
Behavioral Change
SELF- EFFICACY

It refers to the confidence in your ability to

organize and execute a given course of action
to solve a problem or accomplish a task.
(Kouyoumdjiam, 2011)
4 MAIN SOURCES OF SELF- EFFICACY
1. Master Experiences- experiences that talks about
experiences we get in a new challenge and succeeded.

You use previous experiences of

success or failures on similar
tasks to estimate how you will
do on a new related task.

(Ackerman, 2018) What is Self-Efficacy

Theory in Psychology?
2. Vicarious Experiences- having a role to observe and
imitate

You compare your

capabilities with those of
others
3. Verbal Persuasion- someone’s word can have
someone’s self- efficacy

You listen to what others say

about your capabilities
4. Emotional and Physiological States

Contribute to overall health and well-being that results

to boost self- efficacy.

You use feedback from your

body to asses your strength,
vulnerability and capability.
INFLUENCE OF SELF- EFFICACY

Bandura’s Self- efficacy Theory states that you strongly believe in

your own capabilities affect the motivation to achieve, perform, do
well in given tasks and challenges.

Others have a weak sense of self- efficacy, which predicts having less
success in many of life tasks.
Bandura and others have found that an individual’s
self-efficacy plays a major role in how goals, tasks, and
challenges are approached.

– People with a strong sense of self-efficacy:

– View challenging problems as tasks to be mastered
– Develop a deeper interest in the activities in which they participate
– Form a stronger sense of commitment to their interests and activities
– Recover quickly from setbacks and disappointments

(Cherry, 2019) Self Efficacy and Why

Believing in Yourself Matters
– People with a weak sense of self-efficacy:
– Avoid challenging tasks
– Believe that difficult tasks and situations are beyond their
capabilities
– Focus on personal failings and negative outcomes
– Quickly lose confidence in personal abilities
