The pipe diameter should be selected on the

basis of any pipes which happen to be

available by any rules of thumb, but rather
by:
 Flow volume
 Pipe length
 Pressure drop
working pressure
 Number of restrictions in the pipeline
Example - Pressure Drop in Compressed Air
Pipeline
 The pressure drop in a compressed air
pipe line
 length 100 m
 air flow 500 l/s
 working pressure 9 bar gauge
 Pressure drop 0.07 bar
-the portion of the overhead piping

In branch lines, it should be ensured that the pipelines

are installed with the downward gradient of 1 to 2 %.
- Is also a ring circuit which owing to the
longitudinal and transverse connection of the
air line, makes it possible to work with air at
any point.
There are several possibilities when
selecting pipe material

• Copper
• Brass
• High-quality steel
• Steel tubing, black
• Steel tubing, galvanised
• Plastic
 can be manufactured as
soft or rigid copper and
offer excellent corrosion-
resistance and reliable
connections.
 have the strength,
corrosion resistance
and machinability in
a variety of shapes
and sizes to provide
cost-effective
solutions
 corrosion-resistant
properties mean
optimal air flow,
reduced energy
costs, and better
air quality.
 is the traditional material in
compressed air systems.
It is strong and durable on
the outside, and there is a
large workforce of fitters who
know how to install it.
However, it is susceptible to
corrosion.
 is a steel pipe that has
been coated with zinc.
This coating protects
the steel from
corrosion. It is most
commonly used for
outdoor construction
like fences and
handrails, or for some
interior plumbing.
 They do not corrode,
so you don’t have to
worry about rust
dropping into your air
flow. This, in turn,
reduces the risk of
obstructions.
 Should be easy to install, resistant to
corrosion, and inexpensive.
 Those which are to be installed for a
longer period of time are best installed
with welded or soldered joints.
 Those which are made of galvanised
steel tubing, the screwed joint is not
always completely leakproof.
 Rubber hose should only be used for those
lines required to be flexible and where plastic
tubing cannot be used owing to higher
mechanical stress.
 Plastic lines made of polyethylene and
polyamide are today used increasingly for pipe
connections on machine equipment.
 Cutting ring connectors
- Connection can
be released and
retightened
several times.

These fittings are used with copper, steel

and stainless steel pipes. By using the
plunging sleeve, even plastic tubes can
be used.
 Clamping ring connector

-For steel and

copper tube with
special inner ring,
also for plastic
tubes.
 Connector with staved bulge
 Flanged connection
 Socket
 Plug
 Threaded connectors with union nut
 Barbed connector
 Quick connectors for plastic tubing
 CS – Connectors
