Introduction
• Inverters can be broadly classified into two types these are
1.VSI:
when dc voltage remains constant, then it is called voltage source
inverter or voltage fed inverter.
2.CSI:
when input current is maintained constant, then it is called current
source inverter or current fed inverter.
Current source inverter

1. CSI provides a smooth dc current, which is desirable feature for pv

module.
2. The energy storage element of CSI has a longer life time than that of
VSI.
3. With the evolution of reverse-blocking (RB) IGBT switches, the
series diode will be eliminated, resulting in considerable reduction in
the cost and conduction losses.

Comparision between VSI & CSI
VSI CSI
1.input voltage is maintained constant 1. The input current is constant but adjustable.

2. Output voltage does not depends on the load 2. Output current is independent of the load.

3. VSI requires feedback diodes 3. The CSI does not require any feedback diodes.

4. The commutation circuit is complicated 4. Commutation circuit is simple as it contains only

capacitors.

5. VSI is fed from a dc voltage source having small or 5. CSI is fed with adjustable current from a dc voltage
negligible impedence. source of high impedence.
