Jean Piaget was born in
Switzerland in 1896. After
receiving his doctoral
degree at age 22, Piaget
formally began a career
that would have a profound
impact on both psychology
and education. After
working with Alfred Binet,
Piaget developed an
interest in the intellectual
development of children.
Children construct their own knowledge in
response to their experiences.
Children learn many things on their own
without the intervention of older children or
adults.
Children are intrinsically motivated to learn
and do not need rewards from adults to
motivate learning.
