 IN TERMS OF UNDERSTANDING ABOUT WORK ETHICS

 As workers wear made to specialize in different fields, specific codes of conduct

were expected from each worker. In today complex world, ethical conduct of
workers is very important for developing healthy working environment and
increase productivity. From the company we learned about work ethics like:-
 Punctuality, Effectiveness,Accountability,Hard working
 IN TERMS OF ENTREPRENEURSHIP SKILL

 Entrepreneurship can be defined as the process of involving the creation of new

enterprises and that the entrepreneur is the founder. The major characteristics of
entrepreneurs that we have been observed in the company include the following.
 Self-confident with multi skilled
 Result oriented
 A risk taker
Project part two
 Title of project “hydraulically operated sheet metal transporting and
lowering”
 Background of the project
 Objective of project
 Problem of the project
 Methodology
 Geometric their force analaysis
Background of project
 A scissor transport or mechanism is a device used to extend or position a
platform by mechanical means. The term “scissor” comes from the machine
which has folding supports in crisscross “X” pattern. The extension or
displacement motion is achieved by the application of force to one or more
supports, resulting in an elongation of the cross pattern. The force applied to
extend the scissors mechanism may by hydraulic, pneumatic or mechanical
(via a lead screw or rack and pinion system). The need for the use of transport
is very paramount and it runs across labs, workshops, factories,
residential/commercial buildings to repair street lights, fixing of bill boards,
electric bulbs etc. expanded and less-efficient, the engineers may run into
one or more problems when in use.
Objective of the project

 Designing hydraulically operated sheet metal transporting and lowering

Problem of statement
 Needs so many man power to place and lower sheet metal
 Creates uncomfortable working condition
 Waste so many time
 Reduce factory income
methodology
 The steps we follow are shown bellow by using interview, data collection
,observation, conceptual design . detail design , checking ,redesigning
manufacturing method, cost analysis, conclusion and recommendation

BENEFIT AND BENEFICIARY

 The design of sheet metal transporting and lowering machine has so many
benefit for our hoisting company, for different factory and for over all the
country. From those purpose some are:-
 To transport and lower sheet metal.
 To transport other materials and machine that weights up to 200kg.
 To access construction material and working material for other industry.
Geometric , material selection and force
analaysis
 LINKS

 The scissor link is a rectangular shaped bar that responsible for the lift structure
to move up and down. In design of hydraulically operated sheet metal transporting
and lowering scissor lift we have totally 8 numbers of links. Those links are used to
raise the load when the cylinder extend and used to lower the load when the
cylinder retracts.
 Length of link = 1200mm
 Diameter of 3 holes = 10mm
 Diameter of half circle = 40mm
 Thickness of link = 15mm
 Maximum angle of extension = 500
 The 3D drawing of link is shown bellow
.
 LATERAL ARM
 The lateral arm is a long circular rod that is placed between two links. The
purpose of lateral arm is to give strength for all over the structure.
 Assumption:-
 Length of lateral arm = 750mm
 Diameter of lateral arm = 10mm
 TOP PLATE FORM
 The top platform is a flat sheet that has a movable plate that used to carry the
load that went to transport or lowered. The components that attached to top
platform are:-
 Rings that used to attach the link to top plate form
 Movable part of top plate form
 Lever that used to push up the movable part
 Slot that used slide the top idler wheel
 Two rectangular flat bar used to support movable part
 FRAME
 The frame is a rectangular rod that used to support and give strength to the
top plate form. It has a slot that used to slide top idler wheel. The rings that
used to attach the link to top plate form is attach to the frame. Generally
there are 4 frame with different dimension are required for top plate form.
 LEVER/HANDLE
 The handle/lever/ is a circular rod that is placed in the handle socket. The
purpose of handle is used to push the plunger piston rod down it is used to
pressurize the fluid by using spring.
 Assumption:-
 Diameter of handle = 16mm
 Length of handle = 500mm
DESIGN ANALYSIS

 FORCE ANALYSIS
 The force analysis of our design include:-
 Overall force that the cylinder required to carry load, link and top plate form
 Force at each point of link
 Force at the handle/lever
 OVERALL FORCE OF THE CYLINDER
 To find overall force of the cylinder we have to find total weight. Total weight
of the lift that the cylinder carry is the sum of
 Weight of links/arm ()
 Weight of top plate form, frame, lateral arm and other parts (W)
Material selection
Weight of link
 Material selection:-
 Material = stainless steel alloy(405)
 Density(ρ) = 7800Kg/M3
 To determine the weight of link first we should have to determine volume of
link.
To calculate Weight of top plate form
 Material selection:-
 Material = mild steel
 Density(ρ) = 7868Kg/M3
 the volume and mass we use the method of separation
.
Weight of frame
 Material selection:-
 Material = mild steel
 Density(ρ) = 7868Kg/M3
Weight of sheet metal
 Weight = mass (m) * gravity (g)
 = 192Kg * 9.81m/s2 = 1883.5N
–Weight of other parts
 Assume: - mass of other parts = 15Kg
 Weight = mass (m) * gravity (g)
Total weight(W) = 27.076N + 1630.14N + 52.48N + 1883.5N + 147.15N
 = 3740.3N
Force analaysis
 To determine the reaction force at each link first we have to determine total
load acting on the cylinder.
 Total load acting on the cylinder is the sum of:- Weight of sheet metal put on
the lift
 Weight of top parts
 Top plate form
 Frame
 Other parts used to reciprocate
 Weight of each link
 Weight of lateral arm
 Weight of cylinder
Stress analaysis

 I had design some parts of hydraulic scissor transport. And also I have to check
if it is safe at different condition such as from buckling, bending, and torsion
effect. Let’s see
 HYDRAULIC CYLINDER
 Material selection: - made from mild steel, 𝜌𝑚𝑖𝑙𝑑 steel=7868kg/m3
 To find the pressure of the system
 P=F/𝐴𝑝
 To find area of piston, 𝐴𝑝 = 𝛱 ∗ 𝐷𝑝 2Τ4
.  PLUNGER CYLINDER
 My selection material made from mild steel
 Tensile stress (𝛿𝑡) = 120N/mm2
 Assumption
 Standard Plunger diameter (𝑑𝑝) = (10mm - 16mm)
 Take: - 𝑑𝑝=16mm
 Thickness(𝑡𝑃)=5mm
 To determine outside diameter of plunger cylinder
 𝑑𝑜𝑝= dip+2t
.

 PLUNGER

 My selection material made from mild steel.

 Load acting on plunger (W) = P*A
 check of main cylinder for buckling
 For both ends pinned buckling load is (PE)
 𝑃 = Л2 ∗ 𝐸 ∗ 𝐼 Τ𝐿
.
 Design of cylinder
𝑃𝑑
 Longitudinal stress (𝛿𝐿) = 4𝑡

 Bursting force =P*d*L

 Resisting force =2LTδC
 Maximum shear()=𝛿𝐶 − 𝜏𝑚𝑎𝑥𝛿𝐿
𝑃𝑑
 Hoop stress (𝛿𝐶) = 2𝑡
Cost analaysis
 Scissor arm
 Made from stainless steel(405)
 Mass of one link = 5.55kg
 Total mass of link = 5.55kg*8 = 44.4kg
 Cost of 1kg stainless steel = 59.4 birr
 Cost of 44.4kg stainless steel =2637.36 birr
 2. Lateral arm
 Made from stainless steel(405)
 Mass of one lateral arm = 0.46kg
 Total mass of lateral arm = 0.46kg*6 = 2.76kg
 Cost of 1kg stainless steel = 59.4 birr
 Cost of 2.76kg stainless steel =163.944 birr
