The path is start from questioning, try to actively found the answer through trial and error in order to solve
the problem  “scientific procedure”  scientific paper/article as an output
PENULISAN ARTIKEL ILMIAH

• Generally scientific article is a writing

Bring Evidence into practive takes time.

What about nursing?
Time Gap Between Research Findings And Implementation

 Bostrum and Suter (1993) found that only 21% of nurses in their sample
(n=1200) had incorporated recent research into their patient care.
 A review of the literature by Zeitz and McCutcheon (2003) about
postoperative vital signs found little evidence to recommend optimal
frequency for obtaining vital signs.
 However, there are historic references dating back to late 1800s detailing
vital signs in postoperative patients.

TYPES OF LITERATURE REVIEWS

 Narrative
 Scoping
 Systematic
NARRATIVE REVIEW

 Review of Literature
 Integrative Review

A selection of available resources which is focused on a topic of interest.

Author selects relevant articles, concentrated on the topic of interest.

No attempt is made to be comprehensive or to fairly represent the topic.
NARRATIVE LITERATURE REVIEW

Purpose
-Conveys what is known about a topic to identify what is not
known
-Provide an overview of a topic
-Present a logical and organized topic on a body of knowledge
NARRATIVE LITERATURE REVIEW

Characteristics
- organized by trend (all literature that supports and idea)
- organized chronologically (early literature first)
- organized by theme (older adults vs children)
- broad coverage of a theme
- synthesis is narrative
- no explanation of research methods
INTEGRATIVE LITERATURE REVIEW

 Attempt to find everything known about a topic

 Source of information is usually provided
 All types of research (qualitative and quantitative) are summarized
 Research using various methodologies are considered

Hicks, D. (2015). Can Rounding Reduce Patient Falls in Acute Care? An Integrative Literature
Review. MEDSURG Nursing, 24(1), 51-55.
SCOPING REVIEW

 Desire to find out about what is known about a subject

 Uses research and non-research sources, such as opinions, commentaries (peer-reviewed and non-peer reviewed)
 Search strategy is not known ad-hoc, but described post-hoc
 Quality is not a priority
 Goal is to identify areas needing research

Definition: a scoping review is an iterative process whereby existing literature is identified, examined and conceptually
mapped, and where gaps are identified.
SYSTEMATIC REVIEW

 Focuses on a clinical topic

 Involves a thorough AND systematic search for published AND unpublished research
 Methods for searching and selecting are transparent
 Studies are subject to scrutiny for quality using established tools
 Data are summarized in tables
 Data may be statistically summarized (meta-analysis)
WORDS USED TO DESCRIBE A SR

 Rigorous
 Critical appraisal
 Narrow
 Low bias
 Transparent
 Organized
 Logical
 Evidence-based health care (EBHC) is essentially IAPN NCKU :
population based practice which provides health EVIDENCED-BASED PRACTICE
profession with a framework for decision-making.
 The purpose of this course is to introduce
necessary knowledge, skill and attitude of EBHC.
RESEARCH AND LEVEL OF EVIDENCE

 “Research is a systematic inquiry to describe, explain, predict

and control the observed phenomenon. Research involves
inductive and deductive methods.”
 Inductive research methods are used to analyze the observed
phenomenon whereas, deductive methods are used to verify
the observed phenomenon. Inductive approaches are
associated with qualitative research and deductive methods are
more commonly associated with quantitative research.
WHY SEARCHING THE LITERATURE IS AN IMPORTANT
STEP?
• Review and Research membutuhkan keterampilan dalam mencari/menemukan literature  fundamental skills
• Tidak semua yang di hal yang dipublikasi memiliki kualitas yang baik untuk dijadikan refrensi dalam “knowledge
development”

HOW TO SEARCH THE LITERATURE?

 CINAHL
 Excerpta Medica Online (EMBASE)
 PsycINFO
 PUBMED
Cochrane Library
 http://onlinelibrary.wiley.com/cochranelibrary/search/
 full-text systematic reviews and should be searched first to answer intervention
questions
 contains a large number of valuable, synthesized (i.e., critically appraised, compiled,
and integrated) RCTs
Medline (OVID)
 one of the largest searchable bibliographic databases covering medicine, health, and
the biomedical sciences.
 MEDLINE has worldwide coverage, including many non-English languages, though it
tends to focus on North American journal articles. MEDLINE uses a controlled
vocabulary, MeSH, to facilitate searches.
CINAHL
 http://www.medlib.ncku.edu.tw/English/enindex.php
 The Cumulative Index of Nursing & Allied Health Literature (CINAHL) database is
produced by
 CINAHL Information Systems and contains article citations with abstracts, when
available, from 13 nursing and allied health disciplines
National Guideline Clearinghouse
 http://www.guideline.gov/search/about-search.aspx
 a comprehensive database of evidence-based clinical practice guidelines and related documents that
provide physicians, nurses, and other healthcare professionals and stakeholders with detailed
information on the latest management and maintenance of particular health issues, along with how the
guideline was developed, tested, and should be used (e.g., an algorithm)
PsycINFO
 http://www.apa.org/pubs/databases/psycinfo/index.aspx
 PyscINFO is a bibliographic database that indexes publications from the late 1800s to
present.
 This database of scholarly literature in psychology, behavioral sciences, and mental
health contains >2 million citations, 7% books and 11% dissertations
 Professionals in psychology and related fields such as psychiatry, education,
neuroscience, nursing, and other healthcare disciplines can find relevant evidence in this
database to answer specific clinical questions.
PubMed
 http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed
 PubMed is a broad database produced and maintained by the National Center for
Biotechnology Information (NCBI) at the NLM.
 In 2009, this bibliographic database contained more than 19 million citations to
articles from more than 5,200 journals published worldwide.
 PubMed is freely accessible, NCBI has made it possible for libraries to link their
electronic and print serial to access full-text articles.

Cara meningkatkan reputasi Universitas?

 Perbanyak artikel terpublikasi online

 Perbanyak sitasi (buat penelitian yang umum, selalu sertakan data dasar)
 Gunakan keyword yang sama dalam universitas (Universitas Muhammadiyah Jakarta,
bukan University of Muhammadiyah Jakarta)
 Arahkan mahasiswa untuk mengutip dari hasil penelitian dosen yang terpublikasi
online.
