PENGERTIAN
SEKULARISME
 “
Sekularisme, sekulerisme, atau sekuler secara garis
besar adalah sebuah ideologi yang menyatakan
bahwa sebuah institusi atau badan negara harus
berdiri terpisah dari agama atau kepercayaan.

PENDIRI SEKULARISME
 Pendiri sekularisme adalah George
Jacub Holyoake (1817-1906 m) merupakan pria
kelahiran Birmingham, Inggris. Anak seorang
pekerja kasar. Pada mulanya sekularime bukanlah
aliran etika dan filsafat, namun hanya berupa
gerakan protes sosial dan politik.
Pokok-pokok ajaran sekularisme dapat diperoleh
dalam karyanya, seperti :
1. Principles of Secularism (1816)
2. Hie Trial of Ttieism (1558)
3. The Limits of Atheism (1861)
4. Dll.

PRINSIP DASAR DAN
ETIKA SEKULARISME
 Sebagai suatu sistem etika yang didasarkan atas
prinsip-prinsip moralitas alamiah dan bebas dari agama
wahyu atau supranatural, pandangan sekularisme harus
didasarkan atas kebenaran ilmiah, kebenaran yang bersifat
sekuler, tanpa ada kaitannya dengan agama atau
metafisika. Sekularisme lahir disaat pertentangan antara
ilmu (sains) dan agama sangat tajam. Ilmu tampil dengan
independensinya yang mutlak. Kebenaran ilmiah yang
diperoleh melalui pengalaman yang telah menghasilkan
kemajuan ilmu-ilmu sekuler seperti matematika, fisika dan
kimia telah berhasil membawa kemajuan bagi kehidupan
manusia.
 Kebenaran ilmiah ini harus mendasari
etika, tingkah laku, dan perikehidupan manusia.
Disini, tampak adanya pengaruh positivisme dan
sekularisme. Bahkan kalau dilacak lebih
mendalam, sekularisme dibidang etika dan
menerapkan kebenaran ilmiah padanya, sudah
dikemukakan oleh Voiltaire (1694-1778) seorang
filsof Perancis yang pernah mengemukakan
bahwa tuntunan hidup kesusilaan tidak
bergantung pada pandangan metafisika dan
agama, tetapi harus sesuai dengan tuntunan akal
dan rasio.

Prinsip-prinsip dan kecerdasan sangat dijunjung
tinggi oleh sekularisme karena keberlangsungan
sekularisme sangat bergantung pada prinsip ini,
sebagaimana ilmu pengetahuan juga ditopang oleh
prinsip ini. Oleh karena itu, sekularisme meyakini
bahwa ilmu pengetahuan mampu mengajarkan
aturan-aturan yang berkenaan dengan kebahagiaan.
Ilmu itu bisa berprinsip bahwa dalam kemapanan
situasi dan kondisi kehidupan material, ia mampu
menghilangkan kemiskinan dan kebejatan moral.
