Tari Topeng Cirebon

▪ Tari topeng Cirebon merupakan tarian tradisional yang berasal dari
Cirebon, Jawa Barat.
▪ Disebut sebagai Tari Topeng karena dalam pementasannya
menggunakan properti topeng atau kedok.
▪ Tarian ini dapat dipentaskan oleh satu orang penari dan juga dapat
dipentaskan oleh beberapa orang penari yang memakai topeng.
▪ Keunikan dari tarian ini adalah topeng yang dikenakan mempunyai
karakter yang berbeda-beda.
▪ Penari yang mementaskan Tari Topeng disebut Dalang. 2
SEJARAH TARI TOPENG
Dalam sejarahnya, jauh sebelum keberadaan tari topeng di
Cirebon, tarian sejenis telah tumbuh dan berkembang di Jawa Timur sejak
abad 10-16 Masehi. Pada masa Kerajaan Jenggala yang berkuasa di bawah
pemerintahan Prabu Amiluhur atau Prabu Panji Dewa. Tarian tersebut
masuk ke Cirebon melalui seniman jalanan.
Di Cirebon, tari topeng kemudian mengalami perpaduan dengan
kesenian setempat sehingga melahirkan sebuah kesenian topeng yang khas.
Mengingat Cirebon adalah salah satu pintu masuk tersebarnya Agama
Islam di Tanah Jawa, hal ini turut berdampak pula pada perkembangan seni
tradisi yang telah ada sebelumnya.
Syarif Hidayatullah (Sunan Gunung Jati) pada tahun 1470
bekerja sama dengan Sunan Kalijaga untuk menjadikan wilayah Cirebon
sebagai pusat penyebaran Islam. Keduanya berusaha memfungsikan Tari
Topeng yang ada sebagai bagian dari upaya penyebaran Islam sekaligus
sebagai tontonan di lingkungan keraton 3
 Namun, ketika Sunan Gunung Jati berkuasa di Cirebon pada tahun 1479,
terjadilah serangan oleh Pangeran Welang dari Karawang. Pangeran ini terkenal sakti
karena memiliki pedang yang diberi nama Curug Sewu. Saking saktinya, Sunan
Gunung jati tidak mampu menandinginya. Akhirnya diambillah jalan diplomasi
kesenian.
Keputusan tersebut kemudian melahirkan kelompok tari dengan Nyi Mas
Gandasari sebagai penarinya. Menariknya, Pangeran Welang jatuh hati pada
penarinya, bahkan rela menyerahkan pedang Curug Sewu sebagai pertanda cintanya.
Penyerahan senjata berarti pula hilangnya kesaktian sang pangeran. Dia menyerah
dan kemudian setia pada Sunan Gunung Jati dengan ditandai pergantian namanya
menjadi Pangeran Graksan.
Seiring dengan berjalannya waktu, kesenian tari ini lebih dikenal dengan
nama Tari Topeng Cirebon. Dalam perkembangannya, tari ini pun memiliki bentuk
dan penyajian yang spesifik. Dari sini dikenal lah beberapa macam tari, diantaranya
Tari Topeng Kelana, Tari Topeng Tumenggung, Tari Topeng Rumyang, Tari Topeng
Samba dan Tari Topeng Panji. kelima tari tersebut juga
mengusung 5 jenis topeng yang kemudian dikenal sebagai Panca Wanda.
