Hallo Remaja….. apa yang terlintas di pikiran kalian jika

mendengar kata self-image?
Kalian pernah menonton film blockbuster, Harry Potter?
Pastinya untuk para Potter Head sudah tidak asing lagi kan??
Ingatkah kalian, di seri pertama Harry Potter and The Sorcerer’s Stone, dikenal juga dengan Harry
Potter and The Philoshoper’s Stone, ada scene dimana Harry melihat orang tuanya yang sudah
meninggal di cermin besar. Lalu dijelaskan oleh Dumbledore, kepala sekolah Hogwarts saat itu,
bahwa cermin itu menunjukkan apa yang ingin kita lihat. Saat itu, tentu keinginan terbesar Harry
adalah bersama orang tuanya.
Adegan tersebut menunjukkan bahwa apa yang ditunjukkan cermin itu merupakan gambaran
keinginan kita.Di pelajaran tersebut, masing-masing siswa diminta untuk melihat ke sebuah
cermin besar, dan cermin tersebut menunjukkan wujud dari sesuatu yang kita takuti. Salah
satu siswa sangat takut pada laba-laba, sehingga yang muncul di cermin adalah laba-laba
yang ia takuti itu.Begitulah potongan dari seri film Harry Potter, kalau kalian penasaran, bisa
ditonton kembali filmnya.  Apakah huhungan film tersebut dengan self-image?

Larsen & Buss (2010) mengelompokkan self-image dalam tiga bagian,
yaitu :

1. Pandangan terhadap diri yang berhubungan dengan status

sosialnya. Misalkan, peran seseorang di kehidupan dan
masyarakat, apakah ia mahasiswa, seorang ayah, atau seorang
pimpinan perusahaan.
2. Pandangan terhadap diri berdasarkan kepribadian. Misalkan,
seseorang yang pemalas, pemberani atau seseorang yang jujur.
3. Pandangan terhadap diri berdasarkan karakteristik fisik. Misalnya,
saya adalah orang yang gemuk, saya orang yang kekar atau saya
orang berkulit hitam.

Seberapa penting sich self image itu?
Membangun self-image yang positif sangatlah penting, karena
bagaimana kamu berpikir tentang dirimu sendiri dapat
memengaruhi bagaimana kamu berinteraksi dengan orang lain di
sekitar kamu. Self-image yang positif dapat meningkatkan
kesejahteraan secara fisik, mental, sosial, emosional, dan
spiritual.
﹡ Berikut beberapa tips untuk membangun self-image positif:

 Buatlah daftar tentang hal-hal positif yang kamu miliki.

 Mintalah bantuan orang terdekat untuk mengungkapkan apa saja kelebihan dan
hal-hal positif yang kamu miliki.
 Tetapkan tujuan hidup yang masuk akal dan realistis.
 Identifikasi hal-hal traumatis di masa lalu.
 Jangan bandingkan diri dengan orang lain.
 Kembangkan apa yang menjadi kekuatan atau kelebihan kamu.
 Belajar cintai diri sendiri.
 Berikan afirmasi positif pada diri sendiri.
 Ingatlah bahwa setiap orang punya keunikan, termasuk kamu.
 Ingatlah sudah seberapa jauh kamu mengarungi hidup dan apa saja hal-hal berat
yang telah dilalui.
