*Asking Direction, yaitu ungkapan yang
digunakan seseorang untuk meminta petunjuk
dan arah untuk pergi ke suatu tempat.

*Giving Direction, yaitu ungkapan yang

digunakan seseorang untuk memberikan
petunjuk atau arahan suatu tempat.
 * Asking for Directions

1. Could you tell me how to get to the nearest bus station?

(Bisakah Anda memberitahu saya bagaimana menuju ke
terminal bis terdekat?)
2. Do you know where the post office is?
(Apakah Anda tahu dimana tempat kantor pos?)
3. I’m looking for this address. Do you know where it is?
(Saya sedang mencari alamat ini. Apakah Anda tahu dimana
tempatnya?)
4. Excuse me. Am I on the right road for Pondok Indah mall?
(Permisi, apakah saya ada di jalan yang tepat menuju ke
mall Pondok Indah?)
5. Is this the right way for Pembangunan Jaya School?
(Apakah ini jalan yang tepat menuju sekolah Pembangunan
Jaya?)
6. Can you point me out where Asri park is?
(Bisakah Anda tunjukan pada saya dimana letak taman
Asri?)
7. Do you mind to show me where the nearest food stall is
around here? = Apakah Anda tidak keberatan menunjukan
pada saya dimana kedai makanan terdekat di sekitar sini?

*(Gunakan ‘Excuse me’ sebelum bertanya agar pertanyaan

terkesan lebih sopan)
 Giving the directions
it's this way................ (sebenarnya arahnya ke sini)
it's that way ................(sebenarnya arahnya ke sana)

you're going the wrong way ........(kamu sudah salah jalan) you're going
in the wrong direction .................(kamu sudah salah arah)

take this road................ (ambil jalan ini)

go down there ..............(ambil jalan itu)

take the first on the left.... (anda belok ke kiri di simpang yang pertama)
take the second on the right.....(anda belok ke kanan di simpang yang
kedua)
turn right at the crossroads...... (belok ke kanan di simpang empat)
Ungkapan-ungkapan berikut merupakan ungkapan-ungkapan yang
umum digunakan ketika kita ingin menanyakan kepada seseorang
tentang sebuah tujuan yang kita tidak ketahui jalan/arah untuk
mencapai tujuan tersebut.

Simak dialog berikut:

(A): Excuse me. Is there a grocery store around here? (Permisi.
Apakah ada toko grosir di sekitar sini?)
(B): Yeah. There’s one right across the street.
(Iya. Ada satu di seberang jalan itu.)
(A): Can you tell me how to get to Phoenix? (Bisakah Anda
menunjukkan jalan ke Phoenix?)
(B): Sorry. I don’t live around here. (Maaf. Saya tidak tinggal di
sekitar sini).
(A): Where is a bank?
(B): It’s on the road corner and next to the library. (Di
sudut jalan dan samping perpustakaan).
(A): How do you get to the bank? (Kalau mau ke Bank
lewat mana?)
(B): Go straight down this street for two blocks. Turn
left when you get to Maple Street. Stay on Maple for
half a block. It’s on the left hand side.
(Lurus jalan ini sampai dua blok. Belok kiri di Jalan
Maple. Tetap di Jalan Maple sampai setengah blok.
Bank ada di sebelah kiri).
Conversation 1
Woman : Excuse me, Sir.
Man : Yes. Can I help you?
Woman : Yes, Sir. Could you tell me how to get the nearest
supermarket?
Man : Well, the nearest supermarket is located about 200
meters from here. So, you can keep going straight and it will
be on your left
Woman : Thank you, Sir
Man : You’re welcome •

Man : Excuse me, Sir

Old man: Yes, how can I help you?
Man : Yes, Sir. I’m sorry I’m looking for this address. Do
you know where it is?
Old man: Well, this address refers to a house next to my
shop.
Man : Oh, really? Am I on the right way for the address?
Old man: Yes. You just need to continue straight ahead
and when you see crossroads you take the left way and it
will be on your left.
Man : Well, thank you very much Sir.
Old man: No problem

pasti Belok kiri di ujung jalan)
Man: At the traffic lights? (Dilampu merah?)
You: Yes. Then go as far as the
roundabout. (Ya, Kemudian pergi sejauh bundaran.
Man: And at the roundabout? Dan setelah bundaran?)
You: Turn right at the roundabout into Dee Road. (Belok kanan dari
roundabout masuk kejalan Dee)
Man: OK… right at the roundabout. (Ok. Sebelah kanan bundaran.)
You: Go down Dee Road. The bank’s on the left. (Turun dijalan DEE.
Banknya disebelah kiri.)
Man: Thank you. (terimakasih)
You: Goodbye. (Selamat tinggal)
