Pengertian Orde Baru

➜ Masa orde baru adalah sebutan bagi masa pemerintahan Soeharto. Surat
Perintah Sebelas Maret (SUPERSEMAR) adalah dasar legalitas dimulainya
masa pemerintahan orde baru. Orde baru berlangsung dari tahun 1966-1998.
Pada tahun 1968, MPR secara resmi melantik Soeharto untuk masa jabatan 5
tahun sebagai presiden, dan dia kemudian dilantik kembali secara berturut-
turut pada tahun 1973, 1978, 1983, 1988, 1993, dan 1998. Salah satu kebijakan
pertama yang dilakukannya adalah mendaftarkan Indonesia menjadi anggota
PBB lagi.

Latar Belakang Lahirnya Orde Baru

➜ Pemerintahan Presiden Soekarno (Orde Lama) pada titik akhirnya

diwarnai dengan berbagai macam kekacauan. Selepas peristiwa
monumental Gerakan 30 September 1965 yang menewaskan 6
Jenderal Angkatan Darat. Dilanjutkan dengan pembantaian besar-
besaran oleh berbagai elemen masyarakat terhadap anggota
onderbouw Partai Komunis Indonesia. Gelombang demonstrasi juga
mulai menghampiri pemerintahan Presiden Soekarno pada akhir
1965. Ketika beliau menolak membubarkan PKI, ditambah dengan
ketidakpuasan akibat rontoknya perekonomian, sementara inflasi
tercatat mencapai 650%.
