Anatomy of the Hair
• Rambut merupakan sel yg mengandung keratin, terdapat
hampir seluruh tubuh manusia kecuali telapak tangan &
kaki.
• Bagian Rambut :
• Kutikula : terdiri atas lapisan keratin
• Korteks : terdiri atas serabut polipeptida yang
memanjang & saling berdekatan, lapisan ini
mengandung pigmen.
• Medula : terdiri atas 3-4 lapis sel kubus yang berisi
keratohialin, badan lemak, & rongga udara.
*Rambut velus tidak mempunyai medula.
Hair Types & Characteristic
1. Rambut Lanugo rambut halus dan tipis yang muncul pada kulit janin bfx
utk menjaga kulit janin didalam rahim & menghilang dalam beberapa waktu
setelah kelahiran.
2. Rambut vellus rambut halus yang sedikit mengandung pigmen &
berwarna terang, terdapat hampir diseluruh tubuh, berfungsi pengatur suhu
tubuh dan sebagai sensorik.
3. Rambut terminal rambut yang kasar, tebal, gelap dan banyak
mengandung pigmen / filamen, yang tumbuh di kepala, tangan, kaki, ketiak,
kemaluan.
Hair Cycle
• The hair follicle cycle consists of stages of
• Rest (telogen),
• Hair growth (anagen),
• Follicle regression (catagen), and
• Hair shedding (exogen).
Hair Loss
1. Androgenetic alopecia (AGA)
2. Telogen Efluvium (TE)
3. Alopesia Areata (AA)
4. Hirsutism and Hypertrichosis
Androgenetic Alopecia (AGA)
• Androgenetic alopecia (AGA) is a nonscarring progressive
miniaturization of the hair follicle in genetically predisposed
men and women, usually in a specific pattern distribution.
• Onset : at any age following puberty, showing an increasing
frequency with age.
• In men : AGA is an androgen-dependent trait.
• The role of androgens in female AGA is less certain than in
men
• Associated hormonal dysregulation,
• Ferritin level or thyroid-stimulating hormone in diffuse effluvium,
• Endocrinologic workup in women with signs of
hyperandrogenism.
Clinical Manifestation of AGA
• A longstanding, slowly progressing reduction of hair density,
sometimes even without noticing significant hair loss.
• Sudden and rapid loss of the entire scalp hair (alopecia areata
totalis) or the entire body hair (alopecia areata universalis) are
diagnostic for alopecia areata.
• In this case, all pigmented hairs fall out and the patient is left
with only white hair.
Canities Subita
• Characteristic hallmarks of alopecia areata are so called black
dots (cadaver hairs, point noir)
resulting from hair that breaks off by the time it reaches the skin
surface.
Exclamation point hairs, which have a blunt distal end and taper
proximally, appear when the broken hairs (black dots) are pushed out
of the follicle.
