PAST PROGRESSIVE TENSE ATAU YANG LEBIH SERING DIKENAL DENGAN

NAMA PAST CONTINUOUS TENSE ADALAH INDICATES CONTINUING ACTION,
SOMETHING THAT WAS HAPPENING, GOING ON, AT SOME POINT IN THE PAST.

MAKSUDNYA PAST PROGRESSIVE TENSE ATAU PAST CONTINUOUS

TENSE MENUNJUKKAN KEGIATAN YANG BERKELANJUTAN, SESUATU
YANG SEDANG TERJADI DIMASA LAMPAU, SEDANG TERJADI, ATAU HAL-
HAL YANG TERJADI  DIWAKTU TERTENTU DIMASA LALU, ATAU KEGIATAN
TERSEBUT TELAH DIMULAI TAPI BELUM SELESAI PADA SAAT ITU.
  Kalimat tanya : be (was/were) + S +
 Kalimat positif : S + be (was/were) + present continuous (v-ing)?

 EXAMPLE : Were the workers
 EXAMPLE : The workers were queuing queuing? (Apakah para pekerja sedang

 1. Past progressive tense or past continuous
tense used to make fun of or criticize activities
that occur at random intervals but are actually
habitual in nature
Past progressive tense atau past continuous
tense digunakan untuk mengolok-olok atau
mengkritik kegiatan yang terjadi pada interval acak
namun sebenarnya merupakan kebiasaan alami.
EXAMPLE : The girl was always yelling out loud.
(Anak itu selalu menjerit keras-keras).

 2. Past progressive tense or past continuous
tense used to show that there is an activity of short
duration (simple past tense) that occurs when an
activity of long duration (past continuous tense) is
ongoing.
Past progressive tense atau past continuous
tense digunakan untuk mengindikasikan suatu
kegiatan yang terjadi saat waktu tertentu di masa
lampau.
EXAMPLE :  I was shopping at this time yesterday.
(Saya sedang belanja pada jam ini kemarin).
 3. Past progressive tense or past continuous tense used to show that there is an activity of short
duration (simple past tense) that occurs when an activity of long duration (past continuous
tense) is in progress. Subordinate conjunction “when” atau “while” dapat digunakan.
digunakan untuk menunjukkan bahwa ada kegiatan berdurasi pendek (simple past tense)
yang terjadi ketika suatu kegiatan berdurasi panjang (past continuous tense) sedang
berlangsung.Biasaya memakai “when” atau “while” dapat digunakan.
Ketika menggunakan When = at the time (Past Tense). Ketika menggunakan While = during that
time (Past Progressive). Keterangan waktu yang digunakan sama dengan Past Tanse, yaitu last +
Time atau Time + Ago
EXAMPLE : The door was knocked while I was studying. (Pintu diketuk ketika saya sedang
belajar).
