ADMINISTRATION OF CURRICULUM

DEFINITION
CURRICULUM Curriculum is a tool in the hands of an artist to mould his material, according to his ideas in his studio. CUNNINGHAM Curriculum is a systematic arrangement of the sum total of selected experiences planned by a school for a defined group of students to attain the aims of particular educational programme. DEVELOPMENTAL PHASE
Organization and sequencing of Theory Practicals Supervised Clinical practice Individual student rotation plan Preparation of teaching- learning materials, AV aids Curriculum committee, reviews the progress, identifies constrains, assess needs for modifications and formation of other standing committees for management of the curriculum.

IMPLEMENTATION PHASE
        

Actual conduction of teaching- learning activities. (Learner centered, socialized methods). PROGRAM EVALUATION
Definition It is a process informed judgment about the quality of an educational program.

AIMS OF PROGRAM EVALUATION


   

 

Measuring progress towards defined program objectives. Identifying and resolving conflicts, and inconsistencies in the educational programme. Providing indication for further improving the use of available resources. Depending insight of educational administration and others responsible for the curriculum regarding their responsibility in keeping up the quality of education. Providing baseline information for future evaluation. Stimulating increased efficiency and effectiveness in the programme.

COMPONENTS OF THE PROGRAMME TO BE EVALUATED ARE:


         

Philosophy and general purposes of the school. Criteria for selection of students. Provisions made for the welfare of staff and students. Qualifications of teachers, number required, and the functions and effectiveness of staff. Curriculum Students performance Physical and laboratory facilities School records and system of maintaining them. General administration of the school. Brochure of the school

INPUTS: Are those aspects of the program that must be completed prior to the beginning of the programme. Inputs are determined resources involves a description of the types of resources available in order to deliver the structure include the type of personal available to direct the program. PROCESS:Focus primarily upon the actual delivers of the curriculum itself. What is planned to happen during the program and did it actually happen? Was the planned content actually delivered?

OUTPUTS: Description usually focus upon the learning outcomes of the learners. These can be examined by explaining the cognitive, affective and psychomotor outcomes. FEED BACK: It determines the effectiveness of the programme. Study of data given in the teachers reports supplemented by interviews with students determines effectiveness.

RESPONSIBILITIES OF A CURRICULUM CO-ORDINATOR

Provide leadership Provide co-ordination and administrative support in the ongoing development. Implementation and administration of all phases of the districts curriculum cycle. Provision for information session for students to assist them with making appropriate curriculum choices. Collaboration with staff to ensure appropriate implementation of the assessment policy. Liaison with other educational institution or curriculum groups and professional bodies for sharing curriculum ideas. Participation in and contribution to curriculum development in the college.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
  

 

Advises the curriculum director on the curriculum area budget. Conducts curriculum meetings for area as required. Coordinates the development of curriculum objectives for the area: monitors the implementation and evaluation of these objectives. Coordinates the process for selection of textbooks, equipment and instructional supplies for the curriculum area. Acts as a resource person to district teachers on issues in the curriculum area. Meets and coordinates with other curriculum area coordinators to promote inter-disciplinary programs.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS CONTD


 

  

Attends curriculum and other professional conferences. Provides support and guidance to teachers in handling of day-to-day problems of instruction and implementation of curriculum. Promotes innovation within the curriculum area. Works with curriculum committees to ensure successful completion of all phases of the curriculum cycle. Works with curriculum committees in organizing and coordinating appropriate meetings in order to effect continuity and articulation of the curriculum throughout the curriculum area.
