Dr. Vikram Sarabhai established the Ahmadabad Management Association (AMA) in 1956 as a registered society and a charitable trust.

He was a scientist, visionary and a well known institution builder. foresaw the need for He professionalization of management training and research in India.

GIST

Earlier AMA was housed at the residence of Dr. Vikram Sarabhai. At that time AMA only focuses on textile industry. During 1980-1984 the profitability of textile industries in Ahmadabad came under pressure and no of mills declined from 100 to 50. At this moment AMA thought to enlarged its activities in sectors like pharmaceuticals, dyestuff, and small-scale industries. In 1992-93 Diploma course in Management studies was initiated at its Navrangpura complex.

It was able to get the financial support to build up the new complex because of success of its programme titled Management In Daily Life Mukesh Patel the President of AMA during 1995 - 97 conceived a new idea application of ancient Indian wisdom to modern day management . It has been awarded the Best Local Management Association Award instituted by AIMA for the tenth time in a row in 2001 . In 2001 AMA runs various activities training , research , professional development and management education programmes . This programme contributed a lot to the development of its identity .
