Introduction
Wireless communication services has stimulated the need for antennas capable of operating at more than one frequency band among these applications:
GSM/DCS mobile phone hand-set.

GSM/UMTS/ISM/WLAN Operations

RFID (UHF, 860MHz~960MHz) and (2.45GHz)

Microstrip Technology
Microstrip technology has several advantages mainly, low cost, light Wight, and suitable for dualband operating. The bandwidth of Microstrip Patch Antenna are, typically about 5% with respect to the center frequency. This poses a design challenge for the microstrip antenna designer to meet the broadband techniques.

Enhancing the antenna bandwidth

There are numerous and well-known methods to increase the bandwidth of antennas. 1 Patch dimension and material. 2 Lowering the quality factor . 3 - Loading the patch.

4 - Generating resonant modes closely excited.

1 - Patch dimension and material

The Band Width is directly proportional to the substrate thickness h and inversely proportional to its dielectric constant r. As a result, a thicker substrate with a low dielectric constant is generally used to obtain broad BW.

2 - Quality factor influence

The Band Width is inversely proportional to the Quality factor The band width could be enhanced by reducing the ground plane or using specific feeding techniques like aperture coupled or slotted antenna .

2 - Quality factor influence

We demonstrate that the same enhancement could be reached by using an interdigital capacitor as a feed and impedance matching device.

3 - Loading the patch

By inserting between the patch and the ground plane a shorting pin , a chip resistor of low resistance, a chip capacitor or a chip inductance the antenna parameters, are enhanced more over the impedance bandwidth can be increased. Shorting pin

4 - Generating a dual band resonator

Without increasing the antenna size, the largest bandwidth enhancement factor that can be obtained with a dual-resonant microstrip patch antenna.

The Antenna Design

In order to save energy and extend the battery life, partial ground plane antenna will be avoided for this application; the antenna radiate waves away from the center of the antenna in all direction. A directive antenna will be preferred. Dualband operating 2.4/5.2 GHz suitable for WLAN application bandwidth cover (2.400-2.484) and (5.15-5.825) GHz.

Conclusion

By controlling the dimensions of the two pairs of slits and the antenna dimension, the successful ending of generating four resonance frequencies independently tuned has been achieved. The antenna efficiency is optimal the structure is simple to fabricate, uses a low cost substrate and occupies small space.
