The purpose of tonights meeting is to: Learn about PVSD School Community Council documents, supports and initiatives Have an opportunity to share successes and establish networks Provide feedback and advice to the Board of Education through focused conversation

PVSD School Community Councils (SCCs) and the Board


Board Policy 17 School Community Councils
This policy identifies that, To facilitate communication the Board and the Director will develop procedures that allow for all School Community Councils to communicate with the Board at least twice each year. This policy allows for Board members to attend SCC meetings to:

Enhance communication; Enhance educational governance; Create networks; Clarify the Boards role , protocols, directives and initiatives

It is our hope that we will be able to accomplish some of these targets tonight.

PVSD School Community Councils Purpose

To work with families and community members to: Develop shared responsibility in the school and community for the learning success and well-being of children and youth Encourage families, community members and youth to be involved in school planning and improvement

PVSD School Community Councils Roles and Responsibilities


Duties: Understand and communicate the needs and goals for students learning in their schools and communities Develop supports for the schools learning improvement plan Communicate to parents and other stakeholders about the role and actions of the SCC and the school

PVSD School Community Councils Roles and Responsibilities


Duties: Account for the funds that are spent through the school community council Participate in SCC training, orientation and development SCCs should NOT discuss or be given access to personal/confidential information regarding students, staff or families

PVSD School Community Councils Roles and Responsibilities


Other Roles: Assist the school, administration or staff in any initiatives or programs deemed to assist students in any way Support improved student learning outcomes and the schools learning improvement plan Communicate with the PVSD Board help to clarify and reinforce the Boards role, Division protocols, procedures, directions or initiatives

Continuous Improvement Framework (CIF)


Four Priority Areas: Higher levels of literacy and student achievement Equitable opportunities for all students Smooth transitions into and through the system Strong system wide accountability and governance

PVSD Learning Improvement Plans (LIP)

PVSD Schools chose school goals that would impact: Literacy/Student Achievement (Reading, Writing, Math, Science, Attendance, Attitude, Behaviour); Equitable Opportunities Smooth Transitions Accountability and Governance

SCCs and School-Level Planning


Learning Improvement Plan (LIP) Principals are to share goals with SCCs SCCs collaborate with school administration and staff in developing a plan to support school goals It is our hope that Principals will share their results with the SCC and that the SCC provides feedback for future plans
