 The Mariwala family has been in the spice

 Started business operations in 1911 as Kanji


Moorarji, trading in spices like Pepper,
Ginger and Turmeric.

 In 1935 Vallabhdas Kanji Ltd formed in


Allepey, Kerala to source and procure Spices
and Copra.

 In 1947 Bombay Oil Industries (BOI)


established to refine Coconut, Groundnut
and other oils, pioneering branded packaged
consumer products like ‘Parachute Coconut
Oil’ and ‘Saffola’ in India

 In 1970 BOI started Oleoresins and Botanical


Extracts Division in Angamally, Kerala.
 In 1989, the group restructured the
divisions into independent companies for each

 Consumer products division became
Marico Industries Ltd.
 Oleoresins division became KFEL.
 Spices exports organised under Vallabhdas
Kanji Ltd.
 Aromatic compounds with BOI.
 In 1990, KFEL became a Joint venture
between the J.V.Mariwala group (60%) and
McCormick & Co. Inc (40%).
 In 1996, McCormick’s 40% holding was
reacquired by the J.V.Mariwala group. The
group’s main food businesses are Kancor, VKL
and KM Food Ingredients.
 In July 2006, the name changed to Kancor
Ingredients Ltd.
