 Pengertian Descriptive Text

Descriptive Text di dalam bahasa inggris diartikan

sebagai sebuah teks yang digunakan untuk
mendeskripsikan sesuatu baik itu benda, manusia,
tempat, ataupun hewan. Descriptive text biasanya
berisi penjelasan detail mengenai objek tertentu
dimana didalamnya diberikan fakta-fakta dan
penjelasan terperinci berdasarkan pengalaman
ataupun sudut pandang dari penulis. Jenis teks ini
sangat sering digunakan dalam kehidupan sehari-hari
namun belum banyak yang mengetahui mengenai
tata cara menulis descriptive text dalam bahasa
inggris dengan baik dan benar. Untuk itu, pada artikel
ini kami berikan penjelasan terperinci mengenai jenis
teks ini lengkap dengan contohnya.

Tujuan Komunikatif dari Descriptive Text

 tujuan komunikasi untuk menjelaskan suatu

objek dengan memberikan ciri-ciri dari
objek tersebut secara umum. Berbeda
dengan report text yang menjelaskan
sesuatu berdasarkan pada riset mendalam
ataupun data-data yang dihimpun dengan
seksama
Generic Structure dari Descriptive Text

 Strutur utama dari descriptive terbagi atas

dua bagian, yaitu identification dan
description. Pada bagian identification,
biasanya berisikan tentang penjelasan
mengenai objek yang ingin didsekripsikan.
Sedangkan pada bagian Description biasanya
berisikan penjelasan mendetail mengena
objek tersebut
 Ciri –Ciri Descriptive Text
 Ciri paling mencolok dari descriptive text adalah penggunaan
simple present tense di dalam penulisannya. Karena descriptive
text biasanya berisikan fakta-fakta dari apa yang sedang
dideskripsikan. Misalnya: He teaches English in that school,
 Ciri selanjutnya adalah penggunaan adjective, biasanya
digunakan untkk memberikan penjelasan dari subjek/objek yang
dibicarakan.
 Relating Verbs juga sering ditambahkan kedalam sebuah
Descriptive Text, misalnya: she is really funny, he is very
handsome, etc.
 Descriptive Text menggunakan Thinking dan Feeling Verbs
sebagai salah satu cara menyampaikan perasaan dan pemikiran
dari si penulis. Contohnya: she looks pretty, it smells good.
 Di dalam sebuah Descriptive text biasanya juga terdapat adverbs
(kata keterangan) yang berfungsi sebagai tambahan informasi
dari kata sifat. Misalnya : He is extreme.
Contoh Descriptive Text
My Father
 I have a father, his name is Ilham. He is fifty years
old. He is a teacher in SMA Gajah Mada Bandar
Lampung. He teacher English in that school.
 My father has thin body, his height is about
173cm. His face is oval with big eyes, pointed
nose and thick moustache. His skin is white and
his hair is curly.
 My father is a diligent teacher. He always goes to
school every morning and never late. He always
command his student to be discipline. He is a
good father. He always teaches me to be kind.
He always reminds me to study in night day. I am
proud having father like him.
