Description of organisation
The Tebigy Kuwwat Social Unit Enterprise was officially registered in 2003, and it functions in accordance with the current legislation of Turkmenistan and the State programmes on environment protection, sustainable management of nature resources and development of arid zones. Tebigy Kuwwat pays special attention to the development of actions for decrease of the level of the negative impact on arid ecosystems, and also to wide introduction of modern technologies of electricity and water supply in the rural areas. Tebigy Kuwwat functions under the auspices of the Nature Protection Society of Turkmenistan and consists of 25 members of the organisation managed by the board of seven members headed by chairman.

Potential spheres of co-operation

Sustainable land and water management: The further development of irrigated agriculture and pastoral cattle-breeding depends on the sustainable management of water resources and use of modern technologies of water supply. Water resources. The general flow of the Amudarya, Murgab, Tejen, Atrek and other small rivers and springs comprises 25.3 km3 of which about 93% are the Amudarya River waters. As a result of climate changes the reduction of the river flow is forecasted.

Potential spheres of co-operation

In this connection it is necessary to take the following measures: Analysis and estimation of the climate change influence on water resources and development of irrigated agriculture Development of a strategy of adaptation of the national economy to climate changes Development of new water-saving technologies in agriculture Analysis and estimation of greenhouse gases emissions in the power engineering, the oil and gas and the automobile industries of Turkmenistan Monitoring of the local water sources (wells, ponds, imported water) for supply of rural settlements Analysis and estimation of possible risks as a result of floods along the Amudarya River.

Monitoring and prevention of natural calamities Mudflows: monitoring and prevention of the natural calamity Protection and training of population in the flood areas along the Amudarya River Protection and training of population in the eroded zone of the Caspian seashore

Earth flow consequences Settlement Garagul and in Baharlyj etrap

Artificial pond on the way of mudflow current (Experience of the CTS Int. Joint Venture)

Sandy drift of the railway

Renewable Energy
Power and water supply of the local population of the Karakum Desert and the Caspian seashore Creation of network of ponds at distant pastures using renewable energy Solar houses for rural settlements Analysis and estimation of the renewable energy potential

Solar Desalination System in the Central Karakum Desert (Institute Gun Academy of Sciences)

Projects to implement the UN Global Environment Conventions

Analysis and estimation of the local communities capacity to implement the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change, Convention on Biodiversity and Convention on Combat against Desertification Forecast of consequences of the anthropogenic impact of the developing economy on the climate, environment and socioeconomic development of the ecologically fragile regions Development of informational awareness for increase in the potential of the local communities in the sphere of environment protection.

Training
Development of the potential of local population in sustainable management of natural resources Training of local population and local authorities in using methods of drinking water control and water purification Training of agricultural personnel (state and private farms) in new methods of saline land development by means of cultivation of salt-tolerant fodder species Education of local population in ecological and legal issues Training cattle breeders interested in the redistribution, reconstruction, rational use of pastures and new water and energy supplying technologies

Resume on the staff

The projects will be carried out by the grant staff in the field of environment protection, climate change, sustainable land and water management, biodiversity, combat desertification, economy, law, renewable energy, seismology and chemistry. The staff have accumulated great expertise in the projects with the UNDP, UNEP, UNESCO, TACIS, World Bank, ADB, IDB and others. They have been gaining long-term experience at the Institute of Deserts, Flora & Fauna, Institute of Solar Energy, Institute of Geology, Institute of Seismology, Institute of Chemistry and Project Institute of Water Supply, Service Land resources, Universities. In order to realise projects specialised groups of experts in different sciences with great expertise and modern trends awareness were established. When implementing projects the assistance of the key organisations, the local authorities and population is planned.
