Out put characteristics of CE Transistor

• The relation between IC and VCE keeping IB constant is called

output characteristics of CE transistor.

• The output characteristic curves of CE transistor can be
obtained using the circuit arrangement shown in fig 1.

• First make IB = 0 by adjusting VBB.

• There are no injected carries in the base.

• Parctically no IC but collector leakage current ICO will flow due to

thermally generated carriers.

• For a particular value of IB say 40µA as VCE increases, IC

increases linearly up to a point, further increase in VCE results

in nominal increase in IC.

• Note that on the charactristics of fig, the magnitude of IB is in µA

(micro Amperes) compared to milli amperes of IC.

• The curves of IB are not as horizontal as those obtained for IE in

CB configuration.

• It indicates that VCE will influence the magnitude of IC.

• R0 = 1/Slope = (∆VCE)/(∆IC) = Moderately high.

 Summary

• The relation between IC & VCE keeping IB constant is called the

O/P characteristics of CE transistor.

• We can find R0 from these curves which is moderately high.
