Leukemia

Leuk/o = White em = blood -ia = condition

Leuk/emia,

a blood cancer, literally means a condition of white blood. In Leukemia, the blood is not really white. There are too many immature white cells (leukocytes) in the blood. This finding was used to name the disease Leukemia.
