CHAPTER 1: Islam and basic Concepts Definition of Islam, Iman and Ihsan Islam as Al-din ( a way of life) Narrated by 'Umar ibn al-Khattab (radiAllahi anhu), and is found in sahih Muslim; "One day we were sitting in the company of the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, when there appeared before us a man dressed in pure white clothes, his hair extraordinarily black. There were no signs of travel on him. None of us recognized him. He sat with the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him. Resting his knees against his and the palms of his hands on his thighs, he said, 'O Muhammad, tell me about Islam'.

Definition Literally, Islam is salama that contributes into three main definitions: 1. Pure and clean 2. Peace and harmony 3. Loyal and surrender Terminologically, Islam means: 1. Oneness of Allah, sincere to Him by having good faith with the true teaching of Allah that was brought by the Prophet Muhammad S.A.W. 2. Oneness of Allah, sincere in fulfilling the tasks and all His teachings that was brought by the Prophet Muhammad S.A.W. Five pillars of Islam: Recite Shahadah, performing Pray, alms giving, fasting and performing Hajj.

The Messenger believes in what has been revealed to him from His Lord, as do men of faith.Each of them believes in Allah, His Angels, His books and His Messenger .(Quran 2:285)
Six pillars of Iman: 1. Belief in God. 2. Belief in the Prophet of God. 3. Belief in Gods Books (kitab) 4. Belief in the Angels of God. 5. Belief in the Hereafter (Day of Judgement). 6. Belief in Qada and Qadar

Islam as Al-Din (a way of life)
Means: Surrender to Allah. Islam is a high quality religion that nothing can be compared with. Islam have not separated between its personal actions of human relationship and his God only and nothing to do with the society. A definition of power, loyal and surrenders. A way of life that determines the style of behavior and communication among human and human with his Creator.

Religion is divided into two: 1. Revealed Religion. It is a religion that assert its followers to be pious to Allah, to Angels, books, Messengers, Hereafter and to qada and qadar. Examples: Islam, Jews and Christianity. 2. Unrevealed Religion. It is a religion that is not designed by Allah (God) and it does not demand its followers to submit themselves to the rules and regulation of the God. Examples: Hindu, Budha and Zoroastrianism (Majusi).

1) TAUHID AR-RUBOOBEEYAH
(MAINTAINING THE UNITY OF LORDSHIP)
Concept that Allah alone caused all things to exist when there was nothing; He sustains and maintains creation without any need from it or for it; and He is the sole Lord of the universe and its inhabitants without any real challenge to His sovereignty.

2) TAUHID AL-ASMA WAS-SIFAAT
(MAINTAINING THE UNITY OF ALLAHS NAMES AND ATTRIBUTES)
This concept has five main aspects: 1. Allah must be referred to according to how He and His Prophet (saws) have described Him. 2. Its involves referring to Allah as He has referred to Himself without giving Him any new names or attributes. 3. Allah names and attributes is referred to Him without giving Him the attributes of His creation. 4. Its requires that man not be given the attributes of Allah. 5. Allah's names in the definite form cannot be given to His creation unless preceded by the prefix 'Abd meaning "slave of" or "servant of'.

3) TAUHID AL-EBAADAH
(MAINTAINING THE UNITY OF WORSHIP)
Means: All forms of worship must be directed only to Allah because He alone deserves worship, and it is He alone who can grant benefit to man as a result of His worship. Furthermore, there is no need for any form of intercessor of intermediary between man and God.

SYARIAH
Sharia is regarded as divinely ordained, concrete and timeless for all relevant situations. It also has certain laws which derived from principles established by Islamic lawyers and judges (Mujtahidun). AKHLAK The Islamic concept of morality is based on certain basic beliefs. God is the Creator, Master and Sovereign of the entire universe, and all truth, goodness and beauty spring from Him. The code of behavior suggested by the Messengers forms the basis of Islamic morality (Divine Revelation). Islam engraves in us a strong belief in God Who is Present from Whom nothing remains hidden. Thus, faith alone can keep a Muslim individual and Muslim community on the right path of virtue and goodness.

SIMPLICITY, RATIONALITY, PRACTICALITY Islam is a religion without any mythology. Its teachings are simple and intelligible. Everybody may approach the Qur'an directly and translate its dictates into practice. Islam awakens in man the faculty of reason and exhorts him to use his intellect. It enjoins him to see things in the light of reality.
A unique feature of Islam is that it stands not for denial of life but for the fulfillment of life. It does not ask man to avoid material things. It holds that spiritual elevation is to be achieved by living piously in the rough and tumble of life. slam advises man to be moderate and keep away from extravagance.

Islam is a complete way of life and is present in every field of human existence. Islam provides guidance for all aspects of life individual and social, material and moral, economic and political, legal and cultural, and national and international.
Islams objectives are the purification of the soul and the reform and reconstruction of society. 17
Islam removes all of these impediments and proclaims the ideal of the whole of humanity being one family of God.
