Reduces need for incineration and landfill space Saves energy and prevents pollution Decreases global warming Conserves natural resources Put waste to work
1. Resource Efficiency
Conserve Energy
Lighting Use lighting with five star energy seal Heating and Cooling Cleaning and replacing air filters Having furnace cleaned frequently Check Insulation Transportation Automobiles in good working order
Conserve Water
Avoid using marathon showers Turning taps off while brushing you teeth
2. RECYCLE
Separate colored collection bins are provided to deposit separate waste materials
Recycle - Water
Artificial Recharge of Ground Water Rain Water run off in ground water Rain water run off in surface water
use & saving

Additional Info
Indian Union Environment Minister, Jairam Ramesh has already announced that India would soon have its very own panel on climate change as the country could not depend only on reports from the UN Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC). Clearly, it has raised the bar of importance given to environment by the country and a declaration to work hard for winning the most coveted title of worlds leader in clean energy economy. India already has many ongoing initiatives to talk about in the context of Being Green. No doubt that The early bird catches the worm, and so do initiatives that drive green lifestyle in catching the limelight in various arena of life. For instance, Tata Steel has set its goal to reduce carbon dioxide emissions at its Jamshedpur plant from the current 1.8 ton to 1.7 ton per ton of liquid steel made by 2012. Also Tata Motors will set up an eco-friendly showroom with natural building material for its flooring and energy-efficient lights. Tata Power group has declared that 25% of the total power it would generate in the next 10 years would be from renewable energy sources. Agreeing to follow the trend of being green, several other companies are also in the process of implementing clean development mechanism (CDM) projects. The Delhi government has introduced Energy Conservation Building Code (ECDC), to give clear instructions on construction of new government buildings. This code is already in use in various commonwealth projects in the state. Its successful implementation will save 30% to 40% energy.
Brands in India are now focusing more on policies that will help them tap consumers choice for green products and promotion of eco-friendly mechanism in their respective markets. The trend has even swept across the country fashion industry. Many designers now work on environment-friendly clothing and showcase their support for the 'green' cause during many fashion weeks like the Wills Lifestyle Indian Fashion Week. Natural fabrics like hand-woven wool from shepherds, natural silks, recycled junk jewelry, organic knits, etc are being widely used. Another trend of being green for publicity has also been reported among many celebrities who support various green causes. NDTV Save the Environment campaign witness many celebrities like Abhishek Bachan, Abhinav Bindra, M S Dhoni, Priyanka Chopra, Rohit Bal, Shah Rukh Khan and many other joining the campaign to save the environment. Besides celebrities, many Indian citizens are coming up with different ways of being green. A very beautiful example is that of Mawlynnong, the cleanest village in Asia. The village is situated 90 km away from the state capital of Meghalaya. It has over 80 houses and the villagers are the green ambassadors who have worked hard to attain such green prestige. They kept their surroundings clean by doing simple voluntary service like sweeping the roads and lanes, watering the plants and cleaning the drains.
The many non-profit organizations that strive to safeguard the eco-realm work very hard to keep the trend going on and to create more awareness. Not only do they advocate being green but also set out to implement eco-friendly initiatives to ensure survival of all creature in harmony. Renewable energy, environmental regulation, clean energy , energy independence, green jobs, eco-tourism, etc are some of the concern areas they work on.
Different reasons might have prompted different people to adopt this new trend of being green but it surely has proved popular. The real success can only be measured in terms of the change witnessed by people in their lifestyle towards being more eco-friendly and adhering to sustainable ways of protecting the environment that will eventually stop global climate change threats.
So far consciousness of todays generation about the environment and the way the people with this sort of problem seems to be innovative. Yes, the concept of Green Buildings has come into light and is under implementation. This concept is gaining grounds in developing nations like India with the increasing number of developers targeting to reduce the environmental impact of buildings. The Indian government also provides various non-financial incentives for the developers who opt for the green guidelines for building. According to IGBC, the Indian Green Building Council, A Green building is one which uses less water, optimizes energy efficiency, conserves natural resources, generates less waste and provides healthier spaces for occupants, as compared to a conventional building.
Green Buildings retain the environment at the location of building. The land allocation and external design of a green building will be in such a way, that trespassing of light is eliminated and certain species of plants are grown. Thus, the green buildings can achieve the siting and design efficiency.
Harvesting of solar panels on the top of a green building increases the chances of supplementing the conventional methods. The natural light is made penetrated into the middle floors, thereby minimizing the usage of electricity. Sunlight is restricted in the lower floors, apart from saving energy, here we use high efficiency lighting. Temperature can be controlled by the installation of high efficiency windows, insulation in walls, floors and ceilings. Thereby, achieving Energy efficiency.
Hence, Green construction is the practice of creating efficient structures and using processes that are Eco-friendly through out a buildings life-cycle. Other features of an green building might include the following aspects: The wide use of solar panels for domestic hot water heating. Conservation of water including biological waste water treatment and re-use, and the simple collection and recycling of rainwater for garden use. Low energy light bulbs, which can last up to 100 times longer than regular bulbs. Eg: CFL lamps Non-toxic or lead-free paints and wood preservatives.
If youre trying to take up green living, consider switching out your normal trash bag for one of these greener-garbage alternatives: only take 90 days to decompose as opposed to thousands of years with those other trash bags. In addition, they are made with recycled material.
