Conversation - In a conversation, non- English speakers might not understand all of the words, and they might not know what is being said. - However, through the flow of conversation, and, through action and facial expressions, learner will begin to pick out pieces of the language that they do understand - through enough conversation activities, student will begin to learn spoken English.
Translation
- Translate sentences and ideas from the students native language into English. - Then have the student say the phrase back, both in their own language and in English. Although this process takes a long time, it can help students understand the meaning of what they say, and might help them learn more quickly.
Immersion - Immerse student into an English- speaking area like a campus or a town. Dont teach by using any type of translation, and even ban dictionaries from your classroom. - Speak only in English. Use the word that they might already recognize to explain harder words. - Although this might seem like a harder way to learn a language, it actually mimics most closely the way that babies and children learn to speak. It can be a method to teach spoken English quickly.
